Modan-Lach Flag and Arms

Behold, O Shireithans!
The glorious Modan-Lach flag, proportions 3:5, adopted officially 25/11/2007
The flag, designed by M. Hadjimehmetov on the date of its official acceptance by the count himself for the people of his beloved county includes the county arms in the centre of the flag, topped by an additional crown to show the county's loyalty to the Kaiser and Imperial Republic. The maroon colour represents the fertile soil which has made Modan-Lach such a rich county and the breadbasket of Southern Shireroth.
The red represents the bloodshed before unification with the rest of Shireroth, and the bloodshed which ensued after unification, simply because Lach-Modanians like a good fight or brawl. White represents the snow-capped mountains of Upper Modan-Lach, as well as a local strong yoghurt (no, there is no connection), a famous part of Lach-Modanian cuisine.
In local customs, men came to adulthood when they could stomach a whole bowl of the local delicacy. Hence, it has also become a metaphor for the strength of the local people!
The Coat of Arms of the County.
The Emblem in the centre is an ancient, and still unknown, symbol associated with the tribes of Lower Modan-Lach. This symbol is often found on ancient Brookshireian and Yardistani ruins submerged under the Khaz Modan Gulf or in the Shire Sea, as well as the many ancient ruins in the forests of Modan-Lach. It is believed to have some significance to one of the gods of the ancient civilization which once inhabited the area, probably the god of commerce or the seas, as the symbol bears an obvious similarity to an anchor.
The bushels of wheat also symbolise the land's fertility and the industious people of Lach-Modan, the sun and rays of light standing for the future and the hope which will come with it. A small version of the National Arms lies atop the ancient symbol in the arms.

* adds the flag to the forum (it's now visible in Brookshire... if you want it visible somewhere else, just tell me *
* appreciates the vague reference to what might or might not be Khaz Modanian history... *

Hmm? I know nothing of this Khaz Modanian History of which you speak
Should I know about it if I'm to write more stuff for Modan-Lach?

I'm referring to the
Ages of Shireroth, and the
Tale Of Ke´Najrad... don't worry, though, what you've done so far has basically matched what one would expect Khaz Modan to have left behind anyway

.
(note: You might want to set your encoding to ISO-8859-1 for reading those threads. In Mozilla Firefox, this is done by choosing the View menu -> Character Encoding -> Western (ISO-8859-1))

So is Modan-Lach the remnant of the Khaz-Modan empire? Or am I just being too darned optimistic? I was hoping for an excuse for grand ruins all over my little county
Oh, and about the encoding, I'm still with IE. Will the encoding, if I change it, allow everyone to view custom characters?
If so, that's great because the alphabet of the Laqi language for Modan-Lach I'm developing uses around seven extra letters.

You want ruins, oh, you've got ruins. Khaz Modan, in a few words, was a seafaring, technologically advanced and magical civilization of seafarers, that disappeared due to something - nobody quite knows what - being brought in from somewhere by planar magic... leaving behind every ruin you'd ever want to explore. All of this happens right at the beginning of the Ages of Shireroth, BTW, so it won't take long to find out pretty much all that has been established so far.
On encodings, I don't quite understand your question. The safe thing to do, assuming these custom characters are something you can actually type on your keyboard and don't have to do anything like making images for, is to... just assume that it works, since it probably will. The only reason why you have to screw with encodings in the case of these stories is that they were brought through two board moves, which resulted in that the encoding of the underlying data isn't what the board (and therefore your browser) assumes it is. That's why you have to correct the assumption. For fresh text posted with any modern browser, the board's assumptions about character encodings should be correct.

That sounds like just the sort of empire I'd like around ... doesn't matter, I'll find one anyway ...

And the Kaisers of Shireroth are directly descended from the Emperors of the Khaz Modan...
I really like that flag and Arms... I may ask you to make a coat of arms for Brookshire.. if it so pleased you to do so...

Then why all the references to Khaz Modan and the allusion to Loch Modan? Not to mention that the background picture for the whole site is the treetops of the Night Elf land, Teldrassil...

For the answers to all those questions, you would have to apply to our founder and perennial Kaiser, Erik, aka Mors V, aka His Niftiness. He is our founder, and chose those names as he put together Shireroth's structure. He has recently said he wishes he had not inserted so many names from popular games. However, this was done back in 2000, so it is a bit late to rename everything.

Warcraft I and II actually.. not WoW.... WoW wouldn't be around for a good long while after I first came up Shireroth's name and stuff..
And no one expected Shireroth to last long enough for it to matter.. to be honest...

I've already invented an excuse why Modan-Lach is named as it is. Check the county's wiki page.
And no. I'm don't play WoW. My faves are IL2, SMAC, HoI, RoN, RORC and CoDUO- if anyone can tell me what these are

SMAC was great- Sep (founder of the CIS), Ryan and I were going to make a micronational mod for it- CIS as the peacekeepers, Matbaa as the Believers, Gotzborg as the Morganites etc

I still play it whenever I have time. Unfortunately, I tend to end up being rather silly and can't stop playing until I either win or the game formally ends. :P Which means that once I boot up Alpha Centauri, I tend to be effectively removed from my productive life for another five hours at least. *facepalms*

Yeah, me too. Zakharov is great- and if you can get enough minerals and bases, your military technology comes hand in hand with world domination.

Ohhhhhhhhhhohohohoho, I see. SMAC = Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Yeah, I play that once and again.
Also, Goldshire was in Elwynn Forest (yeah, I know... which came first? I dunno), and I think Brookshire used to be in... Westfall? Yeah, it's a ruin now... abandoned except for the Defias Brotherhood bandits...
