Ok, it's just me, not anyone special. (Actually, probably the most powerful person in the nation but don't tell Lyam that). But I thought, to save Ari time, I'd run up a treaty for you ...
TREATY OF YARDISTAN
AFFIRMING the spirit of friendship and cooperation on which relations between the two nations are based, and wishing to place their relations on an closer and more solid foundation;
AFFIRMING that both nations formally recognise and respect each other as independent and sovereign nations, including each other's sovereign territories: websites, message boards and other real or virtual property under direct or indirect control of their respective governments, as proclaimed by them and as long as respecting others micronations' sovereignty under international law and Intermicronational convention, and refuting claims of annexation by any party;
ACKNOWLEDGING the importance to each nation of the relationship and the close connection between them;
RESOLVED to evaluate and pursue opportunities for their governments and their peoples to work closer together in a spirit of understanding on matters of mutual interest;
CONVINCED of the importance of creating, developing and maintaining relations on an equitable and mutually advantageous basis in a long-term perspective;
RECOGNISING that cooperation between the two nations should have their common interest in the prosperity and welfare of both nations;
RECOGNISING full diplomatic immunity of the Triumvirate of Gralus, and their Minister for Foreign Affairs; and full diplomatic immunity of Kaiser Mors of Shireroth, and his Minister of the Exterior, Ari Rahikkala or other appointed delegate;
AFFIRMING that each contracting party has the right to appoint an ambassador to the other contracting party, where each contracting party is allowed to demand immediate removal of the ambassador at any time since arrival and without notice;
OPENING up trading between their nations in mutually beneficial ways to encourage business growth and the sharing of resources;
BELIEVING that should one nation be attacked, or any brother of our nations be unduly persecuted, both nations agree that an armed attack or threat against one of them shall be considered an attack or threat against both, except where this conflicts with a previous treaty of either party.
UNDERSTANDING that both nations should share intelligence on any threats to each others sovereignty as soon as it be known;
HAVE RESOLVED to conclude this treaty and for that purpose sign to indicate acceptance as follows:
CONFEDERATION OF GRALUS
Andreas the Wise
President of CoG
Novatainia
Signed: xx
KAISERDOM OF SHIREROTH
Ari Rahikkala
Minister of the Exterior
Shireroth
Signed:
If that helps. It's in our standard form. Things to note (ie that actually mean something) is the Mutal Defense pact (helping eachother in wars) EXCEPT where it conflicts with previous treaties, Immunity (check the spelling on all those names and titles), and Trade (we have a trading system, I even wrote a database in Access ... just haven't worked out how to get it online) but we can always have that in the treaty and just not bother to trade.
Of course, if there are paragraphs you don't like, tell me and we can drop them. I just figured I like Shireroth, and Ari thought Novatainia looked neat, so we should be fine for a serious treaty.

Well, there goes
my plan to open up diplomatic relationships with Gralus while rather heavily drunk... I guess it's for the best, though.
*reads through the treaty*
I have some problems with this, but they're mostly just simple bugs in the wording...
I'd prefer to leave out the names of the people currently in office here (the Kaiser and me)... I mean, the Kaisership changes hands by tradition every three months or more often, and while I do intend to keep this job for a little while, it would still be somewhat silly to have my name in the treaty.
Also, while I appreciate respecting the position of the Kaiser, we *are* an Imperial Republic, not a Kaisership
I'm also not quite certain about the wording of the paragraph about sharing intelligence. It sounds a bit weasely to me. "Yeah, I know, we *should* have told you we knew the Foobaristanis were about to hack your forum, we're sorry we didn't tell you and we feel really guilty, but we didn't really violate the treaty..."
Finally... I had to strike the defense pact. We don't currently even have legislation on what the military *does*. I'd prefer not to weigh down the deliberations on that by introducing defense pacts.
Here's the treaty with my proposed changes:
TREATY OF YARDISTAN
AFFIRMING the spirit of friendship and cooperation on which relations between the two nations are based, and wishing to place their relations on an closer and more solid foundation;
AFFIRMING that both nations formally recognise and respect each other as independent and sovereign nations, including each other's sovereign territories: websites, message boards and other real or virtual property under direct or indirect control of their respective governments, as proclaimed by them and as long as respecting others micronations' sovereignty under international law and Intermicronational convention, and refuting claims of annexation by any party;

RECOGNISING that cooperation between the two nations should have their common interest in the prosperity and welfare of both nations;
RECOGNISING full diplomatic immunity of the Triumvirate of Gralus, and their Minister for Foreign Affairs; and full diplomatic immunity of the Kaiser of Shireroth, and his Minister of the Exterior;
AFFIRMING that each contracting party has the right to appoint an ambassador to the other contracting party, where each contracting party is allowed to demand immediate removal of the ambassador at any time since arrival and without notice;
OPENING up trading between their nations in mutually beneficial ways to encourage business growth and the sharing of resources;

IMPERIAL REPUBLIC OF SHIREROTH

Some useful links for Shirithians regarding the agreement we're entering:
The Triumvirate (these plus their MiniEx are the ones are the ones who we're giving diplomatic immunity). Basically, that's currently Andreas (MiniEx and President of the Senate), lachieboy (King of
Novatainia), and Lyam conDoin I (King of
Tokidoki).
Their land claims, so you can find them on the map
The forum of Gralan itself
Their opinion on Malarbor, because you know, no nation is perfect

*waves fist*
Malarbor does not wish Gralus to "rot in your own poison" as they put it regarding him - I am reliably informed that in response to this Malarbor shall ensure his poison gets to your before your own does. :P Good to see you lot soon learned the idea behind the Spore...
And re: Defence Pacts - I'm sure the Mango-Camel Pact includes a bunch of stuff about that?

Shush you, don't interrupt me when I'm trying to politely weasel out of an agreement I don't think we know these people quite well enough yet for

Motion seconded! Moving to vote! I vote Aye! Bill passed!
Sorry Gralus, the... uh... Council of me has decided that all negotiations hereafter between our Governments *must* take place while both diplomats and their adjutants are under the influence of alcohol.
Translation: Ignore me, bother him *points at Ari*

Ok, those sound fine. I don't actually know what the intelligence clause means ... its one that was in our early treaties that other nations proposed and we've kept it in. Happy to drop it.
Not naming people does actually make a lot of sense
And if you don't want the defence pact, that's fine. Instead, how about just saying we won't invade eachother?
Add this clause:
AGREEING not to invade eachother, or assist other micronations in doing so.
That fine with you then?

I'll just put it into our archives (as soon as the site comes back on, I think our admin's making changing)
EDIT: When the Landsraad passes it ... for that matter, Triumvirate have to pass it ...

Then I'll place it in Gralan Archives. I hope this is the start of a long and happy relationship.

Andreas the Wise wrote:(Actually, probably the most powerful person in the nation but don't tell Lyam that).
*sigh* You are not the most powerful person in Gralus. In Novatainia, probably, but Gralus, no. Your position as President is not permanent like Bayen's or Lachlan's (look at the constitution, you can only be president a maximum of 9 months in a year), and me and DH have full admin abilities. Plus, I'm former King and first adviser to the current King. No offense, but I must say otherwise.
Now, while we're talking about greetings, I will be the second acting ambassador to Shireroth (since I'm the only one that can spell it right consistently
). In Gralus, I am a senator. In Toketi (sorry, no longer Tokidoki), I am current Duke of Kotsovan and Yashere of Doshtan Yokutar and first advisor to King Bayen.
I'd also like to become a citizen of Shireroth. I was here once, long ago (there was a Kaiseress in power...), but now that I've had time to look around and take in everything, I'd like to be a part of this. I look forward to getting to know everyone...

Erm... I meant to say... welcome to Shireroth, Liam! (is it OK if we call you just Liam? Because, unless you say something about it right about now, that name's going to stick

). I hope you'll have fun around here and all that (I'm not good with welcomes

). You can find the immigration form at the
Ministry of Immigration and Naturalisation, of course.

Lyam, I meant power in influence, not necessarily real power ... I seem to work best in micronations as the "power behind the throne" - the throne is there to stop me doing really impulsive or really stupid things, which I occasionally come up with ...
Surely the majority of citizens voting for me as Presidents gotta count for something ...

Your native instincts are rather common here, actually.

You were the only one with a campaign, and that was barely even what it was. I really didn't care (notice I gave up the throne...), and DH is not as well known in Toketi. Should I run a serious campaign (which will likely never happen), you'd have a serious contender for the presidency...
And again, I have a lot of influence behind the throne of the larger gralan member...

Just remember, though, gentlemen, that Shireroth does not permit political parties and only Yardistan is allowed to rebel.
Hope whoever contends for your other country's Presidency fights a good, clean fight, and may the best man win.

Meh, I had my fun in power. I gave up the throne of Toketi for college. Plus, I'm too far left-wing to want to be an absolute monarch. Nobody supported my idea for the monthly redistribution of the wealth nor making Festivus a national holiday in place of Christmas...
