I stopped by to check up on Ari's Haskell classes and noticed that the only thing to happen in a week and a half was a Mango Camel act, and that ain't right.

SO I'M SOLVING THAT.

By... erm, posting and saying hi. Last time I posted in Shireroth I was just beginning my Senior year in highschool, I believe. I'm posting this from my dorm at Florida Tech now, actually, being a Freshman majoring in Computer Science. I'm working on finishing up an update to Charas, that website me and Sai go to, as I'm now one of two admins there since Sai resigned. I'm also a web developer with the CS department at my school as part of my work study program. I'm not actually sure if I want to focus so much on web development, things just fell together like this. Oh, I'm also hopelessly in love with a girl named Jessica, and luckily for me, she's hopelessly in love with me. :P

Hum... not much else has changed, really. I just figured I'd post to see how many people actually respond. :evil

Congratulations on all that stuff you just said.

Welcome back. Don't expect any other replies unless you tell people about this - aside from say Babkhans or Anticans who seem to spend an odd amount of time online on these forums.

Ah, Shireroth is still bursting with the normal amount of activity, I see.

Hey there, congrats. Say hello to Jessica from me :)

Not much has happened for me - moved from the UK to Sweden, starting my uni course...

Shireroth is half-dead, as usual. But we love it anyway!

Babkhan's spend a lot of time here, because Shireroth happens to be one of the only original nations left and we're lonely. Its terribly sad....

OHH! Look Sinew! My favourite!

Moose--

It's great to hear from you. I'm glad things are going so well in your life. Hope you spend more time around here. We have missed you.

Hmm, so moose is a ghost, and he appears when I've not got the time to be around... *seems to count fingers* Holy cow. Do I ward moose's ghost of? *rapidly increases distance as not to scare said ghost off*

S'good to see you around! Pop by more often, will you? :)

Mr. Moose!

How good to see you. Just so that you know that somebody besides Anticans & Babkhans come to visit.

Check out the wiki. I've been re-building it, bit at a time.

Why do all you people crawl out of the cracks as soon as I say "Don't expect any more replies than this"? :P

Man, I sound so rude these days... problem is the people around here are a bit soft and haven't got the heart to tell me to get out of the Comfortable Chair and get out of their house. :)

As the Istavanis might say, it is in order to ship entropy. :confused

As for benkern claiming to be rude, well, compared to my experiences (elsewhere), sir, you are the soul of discretion and courtesy!

Well, for what it's worth, I'm not Shirerothian. Granted, benkern, you specifically mentioned the Anticans and Babkhans, but I'm sure you meant, "aside from all people who aren't really Shirerothian Citizens".

*suspiciously eyes the "Shireroth happens to be one of the only original nations left" of Hungry Vulture, ponders being offended... then decides, never having publically announced more than her nation's name (and stolidly not planning to, either, except to select few/those who ask), it's probably a warranted impression to have* ^_~

By original, I meant of the original nations of this sector. Shireroth, Interland, erm almost Babkha...

But judging from your sig I'd assume you were either active in, or have had some relationship with menelmacar?

I was just trying to joke around, you don't have to justify anything, Hungry Vulture. Sorry if that wasn't clear. :)

None. But now I'm curious: What makes you say that? :)

I'd say it was this:
Status: Slothing about.
:fish

Naw... Hes- I mean the Hungry Vulture just has some affiliation enfused into his brain from the old days where if he sees a Star in the fashion depicted in your signature he shoots. :P

Edit: Gasp!
Elected by last democratic decision on the 19th of February, '07.

When you say, "star in the fashion depicted", is that more of a reference to the background pentagram, the foreground star octagon, the colours, or...? If it's the colours, point me their way... for then they must suffer. ^_~

Argh! No! It accidentally ended up being a day with a meaning?! ...though I suppose all 365 days of the year have a meaning these days. At least. >.>

Anyway... you make me reckon the early micronation days were full of fluffy-fond love all around... in a sarcastic way. Was it really that bad, or is most of it playful exaggeration? (If you don't mind me being that nosey.)

Hardly.

A lot of places were Flame-Warred (literally) to death. I'm still (sort of) in the middle of one that started in 1998, but 'most everyone has forgotten why.

As for your Star, Menelmacar was full of Tolkeinesque Elves that used the Star of Feanor (or some variant) in a lot of symbols.

Long live the Kaiser!

I wasn't around back in the day. :) As a hobby and a micronational job, I consider myself a micronational historian, so I sort of pick these little things up. My particular interest is the early Apollo Sector and what (directly) came from that era - a reason for my interest in Shireroth, one might assume, but I believe this interest developed during my lurking days in Shireroth. ;) First hand, I don't know what it was like - but I think that things were about the same. Some oldies say the Hobby is in its dog days... I don't believe that. But I do think I'll be saying that when I'm an oldie. :P

Anyway... what my cynical comrade says is right, the star looks quite Tolkein-esque in some ways which caused Hesam to assume you were a Menelmacari.

Whoever this Hesam person is they sounds extremely clever.

The state of the sector.. Oh dear.

Personally I think this sector of the hobby is an algorithm, we're working on the second circuit around the track and Shireroth, Babkha, Attera and all us old folks are just hold overs from the first circuit.

Its funny seeing it begin again, I can't wait till we get to the Tymaria part again. Or maybe we already have..

Tolkien-esque? ...ew! *shudder* *brushes it off*

President Jacobus: 1998? D'oh! I don't think I've ever heard of a longer-lasting flamewar. I just barely came online that year. I've thus far been blessed with a resolution to each one of mine. Ah, or at least a "hate each other from a distance" semi-resolution, at any rate.

Anyway, thanks for the brief history lessons, guys.

History lesson

(Amazing how many cultures share symbols like "stars" & such.)
1998. D'Oh!
I don't know whether to be releived or concerned that any micronationalist on-line for a year is not at least passingly familiar with the Cyberian Wars and the fallout from them. Maybe wounds are healing. Maybe the casualties have been so high that there are few left to fight.
Maybe nobody gives a felgacarp any more.
(latter most likely)

To be accurate, I did not really get my hands on the situation until 1999.

Here is as good a link as any as to the history involved.

http://www.shireroth.org/wiki/index.php?title=Cyberia

P.M. me with any questions, I'll be happy to answer off of the forum. I want to see activity in Shireroth, but not in the form of the Fourth War for Cyberian Liberation.
Regards,

Keep in mind my own is a rather serious attempt - and fairly isolationist. There's been very little need to get involved in history, or even the greater community. I hang out here because a bunch of cool people do, and I found the place because of Shyriath.

Still, I'd probably be involved in everything and have all history gobbled up by now, were there not another factor, so you're astonishment is certainly warranted. Ultimately, it's also very much been a RL time issue... or rather, perceived RL time issue, based on my previous internet experience(s) with large political communities and the time they took to maintain.

Sorry, for some reason I thought all of the above were somehow obvious - but of course it's not. Eh! Silly me. :)
