*A large explosion is heard from outside the Ministry. Followed by a female voice coughing and hacking and complaining in a cogney accent (why ya alwaiys got te blast an smoke awl te time when ye git some-whe) a male voice replies, (well stay here and catch your breath and remember to wear that gas mask i gave you next time. and dont scare the locals, some of them dont know what a jabberwocky is.... so keep quite, please?) The cogney female replies (fine wot. ye owe me some tartey tarts).. (yeah yeah....) the male voice comes closer..

and In to Baldwin's Office comes a large H47! with Baron h4773r 3lfs0n underneath it (as he so often is) He bows deeply to Janus and holds out his hand for a shake*

Spiritual - Im the "Blessed" of Melvin (aka Murphy) god of sarcasm. and Currently High Priest Tempore of the B00/\/\ist temple, the national religion is Cedrism. (a large explosion rocks the ministry from outside and a pael of hysterical laughter floods the halls. then is suddenly cut short!)

Welcome to Shireroth! I apologies for the inconvenience, but you cannt hold nobility or a position in Shireroth for 2 standard weeks. It's a minority period while we break you in so to speak. Anyone volunteer to mentor him and make sure he knows the ropes?

Again, welcome to Shireroth! :)

Well, that would be the job of the Director of BISI, but no...nobody wants to work for Baldwin, just because he's ecccentric! Anyway, yes, you'll have the two-week minority period. It's actually my job to tell you that, but no! No! The Kaiser must steal my thunder...

Two weeks? Isn't that a bit long? I mean, I will if I must, but that's quite a large amount of time to wait just to actually be able to do anything besides exist...

In that time, SHINE will also verify you (we want to make sure you're not a freak out to steal credit-card numbers.)

SHINE? Are they the official credit-card company of Shireroth? :P

It is pretty resonable, gives you chance to settle in, let people get used to you, and all that.

Even people who are allready micronationalists go through it.

(though the veterans are often let off)

It's just that two weeks is pretty long in internet time. A week would be more understandable, but two weeks just seems redundant.

How dare you accuse us of being redundant, and furthermore, redundant, how dare you accuse us of being!?

we do it to ensure consistant activity for a good amount of time in real life. if shireroth went by internet time i would probabaly be dead by now.

two weeks is nothing compared to the six odd years our great nation has existed.

and yes, even the vets go through it.

it'll be over before you know it. its been a week already hasnt it?

The minority period was set up (I believe) because we sometimes get lots of people joining who are semi-active for several days, talk about how much they like the nation and all that they want to do, and get people excited. Then they get distracted and disappear. For this reason I think the minority period is a great idea.

Of course, sometimes it takes as much as a month for a newcomer to disappear like that. The minority period is here as much for our sake as for yours, since it gets extremely confusing to have people immigrate, claim counties and join baronies or whatnot, and then disappear. It's very frustrating from a management point of view.

But, with the minority period, if you look around for a couple of weeks and decide, after all, that this place is not for you (perhaps you want your own nation for a blank slate, or you dislike our overall community's culture), you can leave without having changed much.

It's been two days.

Then it's only 12 days until your minority period is over.

By the Authority of the Minister of Immigration, Naturalization, and Tourism:

Except in cases where the minority period has been waved, or where the Kaiser or the Landsraad has ruled otherwise, be it known that all minority periods shall be fourteen days long (not to the hour.)

Good! Baldwin will mentor you, and so will I. :)

As I said earlier, if you AIM, lets talk. :)

Sure, why not, I have nothing better to do. I've been told I bear I slight resemblance to Sir Alec Guinness, so why shouldn't I be a mentor? And, Janus, I will train you, and you wil become the Director of BISI one day, and, after I am gone, you will continue on the grand tradition of the MINT.
"For a thousand generations the MINTs were the guardians of bureaucracy and order on Micras."

I'll pass on the tutor thing, I prefer to learn by myself, although I'm flattered by the offer.

And no, I don't have AIM and don't plan to get it. Personal reasons.

Unfortuanatly, you're going to need to get either that or MSN to contact us. In fact I'm going to make a bill to force people to get an IMing service with the sole exception of a valid excuse such as that it doesn't work on said computer. You can always put invisible on most people other than Shirerothians, anyway.

...am I being mean again? I don't mean to, just telling you on what I plan to do because it's really annoying to not be able to talk to some citizens.

by Janus Hassildor
Well, just as you find it annoying to not be able to talk to people, I find it annoying to not be able to think out my posts. I probably spend more time typing posts than others, because I spend a few minutes thinking out what I want to say. It's not that I can't come up with a response that quickly, or that I'm dumb - I'm more or less sure that my grammar so far has proved that wrong. It's just that I'd rather get my message across in the way I want it the first time through.

I also find the whole chatting experience annoying. I'm sure anything you need to say to me can be said on the forums or PMed to me - from the looks of things rapid communication isn't a necessity; I won't even be able to vote or hold a nobility for another ten or so days.

And no, you're not coming off terribly mean, just opinionated. It's not nice, but it doesn't exactly project a warming, friendly feeling. :D

A good reason I have for having a chat service of some kind is that you will miss out on a lot of the spontenaity and friendliness of this group if you restrict yourself to only the forums or PMs. You will notice that many people do not check the fora every day (or even every few days), and some people seemingly never check their PMs. Having a way to essentially talk to somone is a great benefit, and frankly, with many of the things we talk about, the speed at which discussions and decisions happen can be painfully slow unless they are kick-started by a group chat or one-on-one hashing out of ideas.

Just as you would not run a business or a government without a phone or inter-office email (where appropriate), let alone face to face meetings, it is impractical for us to try to run our country without chat services. They fill all of these roles for us as a suplement to what we can get on the forums. If you want to join fully and really understand a lot of our actual culture, you will be missing a lot (and causing annoyance on many fronts) if you are unavailable online except through these boards.

hey Janus, dont feel bad, I agree quite a bit with what your saying, but i also know from this end (the "leader" end) that not being able to contact people is a HUGE pain in the ass.

But once again, I agree with you that a few days can go by and nothing will blow up, bu when stuff does blow up, it only takes hours....(i can PM you some examples if youd like)

in those cases we like to be able to get ahold of all parties concerned..

but in this PARTICULAR situation, i see no reason why you cant explain exactly what you want in a post and then we can better recommend a county (just like youve already done in the other topic)

so good job and good luck.

and dont worry about bill, he gets impassioned and the rest of us tend to be a little tradition oriented as well... HOWEVER, we can and do change.

so be bold and ask for what you desire!

and we'll give you something like it

more or less

Well, I'd desire not being kicked out of the country because I do not want to join a chat service.

As Kaiser, I can safely say you won't.

Well, the waiting has gotten to me. I'm sure some of you will see me as just another newbie who wasn't going to stick around, but frankly, that won't really affect me, considering I won't be here to see the mockery. I'm revoking my request to join because I can find absolutely nothing to do as a new citizen. Of the currently active ministries, none of them require anything I could contribute. Of the subdivisons, without a county I am useless. And of the Landsraad, the only issue I have any input on is one I cannot hope to fight against.

Hopefully, in time, you may change this ridiculous waiting period to a shorter period of time and/or provide a few more things for someone without a county to do. Until then, I take my leave.
