Pi Day

I would like to thank those who put the words into the mouth of Malarbor for recognizing Pi Day. Although I am generally not disposed to engaging in the evils of mathematics, the contest to see who could recite the most digits of Pi was very rousing, and I certainly enjoyed the Pi face-painting (I forced my Bible-thumping former math teacher to dig out the black from some unholy netherdrawer of her desk.)

Pi Approximation Day is an Nth times better than Pi Day. April 26, here we come!

Well, leave it to a New Englander to come up with steak and bj day. It seems all of us up here have our minds in the gutter. :P

Nonsense, everyone knows it was ripped off of Great Turkmenbashi's holiday "Twelve Day of Lamb, Ayran and Fellatio"

Alas, Ryan, I'm a poor, "unsophisticated, uneducated, stubborn," Midwesterner. I'm not surprized that my poor simple prairie mind was too prudish to even consider a Bovine Muscle-slab and Fallacio Day.Which I suppose it is all for the best...except for a slim few, most every New Englander I've ever met was a terrible snob.

Not as much of a snob as I am.

It's a bit late, but i've managed to memorize the first 80 digits of Pi last week.

That's almost as funny as the Quadratic Formula Song! After all, what's a really good math song without a grisly murder?

Quadratic Formula song? Link please.

Oh, I don't know where it's located. My math teacher was just playing it one day in math class, on her computer (we were learning about parabolas and the like.) I could ask her what website she found it on, when I get back from spring break, if you don't mind waiting until the 27th.. I do, however, know the chorus:
" It's negative B plus or minus the square root of b squared minus four (a) (c)....over 2A! Over 2A! Over 2A!" Or something like that...

I remember the quadratic formula song!! Though think the version I've heard is a bit different than the one you're referring to. It was on a tape with other various math related music, like the absolute value song...
X equals negative B, plus or minus radical B squared, minus four A C! *knock* *knock* knock* All over two A!

There are probably about a billion versions of the Quadratic formula song. This is the one I learned...to the tune of Frère Jacques!
Negative B
Negative B
Plus or Minus
The Square root of
B Squared minus 4ac
B Squared minus 4ac
Over 2a
Over 2a

The quadratic formula is too simple. How about the solutions to the third order polynomial equation instead? (a*x^3+b*x^2+c*x+d=0)
x1 = -1/6*(-(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*a*(12*c^3*a-3*c^2*b^2-54*c*b*a*d+81*d^2*a^2+12*d*b^3)^(1/2))^(2/3)+12*c*a-4*b^2+2*b*(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*a*(12*c^3*a-3*c^2*b^2-54*c*b*a*d+81*d^2*a^2+12*d*b^3)^(1/2))^(1/3))/a/(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*a*(12*c^3*a-3*c^2*b^2-54*c*b*a*d+81*d^2*a^2+12*d*b^3)^(1/2))^(1/3)
x2 = 1/12*(-(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(2/3)+12*c*a-4*b^2-4*b*(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(1/3)+i*3^(1/2)*(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(2/3)+12*i*3^(12)*c*a-4*i*3^(1/2)*b^2)/a/(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(1/3)
x3 = -1/12*((36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(2/3)-12*c*a+4*b^2+4*b*(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(1/3)+i*3^(1/2)*(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(2/3)+12*i*3^(1/2)*c*a-4*i*3^(1/2)*b^2)/a/(36*c*b*a-108*d*a^2-8*b^3+12*3^(1/2)*(4*c^3*a-c^2*b^2-18*c*b*a*d+27*d^2*a^2+4*d*b^3)^(1/2)*a)^(1/3)

But that doesn't make a very good song.
