Posted: Wed Feb 01, 2006 7:05 pm
by Kaiser Letifer II
I hereby appoint Hypatia Agnesi as Provost of the Imperial Judex.
Have fun, do a good job.
Further, the Provost shall hence forth be known as the Arbiter. All relevent references in the Lawbook and Decreebook should be changed.
That is all.
Letfier H'Graa II,
Kaiser of Shireroth.

No prob. Now do a good job.
And assuming the Imperial Inquisitor Act passes, any recomendation for one?

If you were not Kaiser right now, I'd first recommend you, as you know the laws better than anyone else, I think. I would recommend Bill, but he's Praetor at the moment, or James, but he's just finished being Kaiser and probably wants to take a bit of time off.
I think it would be best to ask for people to state their interest in the position, if and when the act passes.

Wait, let me get this straight. Someone reccommended me for a position without me asking!? That's a first, and I'm honored. Thanks, Hypatia, although I would have to respectively decline, as I have quite a few jobs already.

Well, you've been trying pretty hard to get our laws in order and to put them in some sort of comprehensive form, and you know them pretty well now. Imperial Inquisitor would be a good post then, to continue cleaning up laws with contradictions if nothing else, if you were not already Praetor. So yes, I recommended you without you asking first. Congratulations.

SO no objection to the change from Provost to Arbiter? (Bill commented that we oughta rename it from Provost, and I agreed, Provost is a university thing really.) Arbiter I think was the old name we were gonna use many years ago.

That's fine with me.

Aside from yet another Starcraft reference, Arbiter is an exceptionally cool title.

One of these days, we also need to get ourselves an Archon. Even a Dark Archon.

I'm the Archon of Soloralism, actually.

You do know.. that Starcraft got it from somwhere too.... Why not say we got it from the Romans... who I think had it first...

Isn't the correct spelling "Arbitor"?

*points to the fact we mispell EVERYTHING ELSE, so why not that one?*

Bill said it was Arbiter....

According to dictionary.com, it is Arbiter, not Arbitor.

It doesn't matter! We're Shirerithian! We don't NEED your dictionary.com!
I am now declaring an official military action against dictionary.com!

*cough*
When the Kaiser (especially Erik) says "you can't do that".... you don't ask why.

I know I cant spell half as well as i'd like, BUT every time i see simple every day words mispelled it makes me cry inside...
so, mispell all you want, but burning books IS A SIN to me. plaese refrain from making those jokes or at least never in my area of this nation.
But Arbitor sounds like a wierd robot whereas Arbiter sounds like an official.

We ought to revive the position of the ombudsman. Not that it's useful in any way, but its name is the coolest that we've yet had...
... although it, too, could be improved by changing it to "asiamies", of course

I would not burn books!
and seriosly, there are far worse jokes told then that. like ones about burning people.

"We ought to revive the position of the ombudsman."
Given the way I have been for the last couple Kaisers, I pretty much have been the unoffical Ombudsman already.
As well, the Lawbook has been updated to change Provost to Arbiter.

People are made way more consistantly than books and usually with less foresight. And theres no editorial process, for better or worse, usually worse.
Honestly, I know many people I would rather burn at the stake before I'd light up a Feist Novel.

and i love you in a completely platonic, non suggestive way.
And Conglacio, I'm very sorry if i offended you but all I can say is that you must be blessed with never meeting people who truly do NOTHING to contribute to human existance.
And, honestly, if thats the case, I envy you. But alas I am a cynical, sarcastic, self loathing, cromudgeon, and am destined to suffer from those around me. (present company sofar excluded. theres some -stupid- going around on the boards but the people in this conversation are not contributers)

even if they contibute nothing, an individual human being is still unique.
I have a drug pushing uncle who has robbed from my family, and a relitive by marrige who could be said to have contributed to another relitives death. I do not speak to them, but I would not quicken their deaths.
A printed book is a copy of a humans work. as long as a copy of it is accessable, it does not die if you destroy one unit. destorying all accessable copies of a book, now that is bad. as is restricting access the the printed words of man.
