First Contact with the Lusophone Sector

A reply email sent to me after I contacted Dom Jorge Quinta-Nova of Algarves:Quote:Dear Moose, I was very happy to hear from you, as I believe that the Lusophonia and the English speaking micronationalism should interact a bit more than in the past.I've visited your website and liked it very much, mainly because everything outside our language group is absolutely new and exciting, but also for its consistency and open-ness (?). As for the main language of communication, I'm OK with English, as I am a professional English teacher here in Portugal. Most of our citizens do not speak English (inckluding our King, Dom Felipe IV), but we are creating a core of diplomats with knowledge not only of the language, but aware of the cultural aspects too, as we really want to open channels of communication. Adicionaly, this could be a very good opportunity of exercising our English speaking capabilities and, who knows, for you to learn a bit of portuguese, which is not that much different from Spanish - we have the nasal diphtongs ão, ãe, ões, and such (ão which in spanish is -on (same as in English, etc.). Well, regarding Portuguese speaking micronationalism, the relations between nations are a bit like the English speaking ones. They are dominated, though, by some conflituosity (?) and at times, family and political relations. In general they are friendly, but a lack of cooperation (at all levels) is always present. One of the problems is few micronationalists for many micronations, which divides our sector in two. There are those who defend the right to have many micronations, and defend pluralism; and others who defend that micronations should unite in 4, 5 big micronations in order to combat Fragmentation. A bit like macro Globalization, in which the first call the other imperialists, and they call us nationalists. From this last sentence you can know in which of the sides I'm on. I'm all for pluralism, but also for cooperation between micronations. As for the number of active micronations, we have about 20. The biggest are the Principality of Sofia, the Sacred Kingdom of Reunião, our own United Kingdom of Portugal and the Algarves (I'm an Algarvian, by the way), Sacred Kingdom of Pathros, the Kingdom of Normandia, Republic of Porto Claro (since 1996 in the internet - the oldest), Republic of Orange, the German Empire (or 4th reich, as they call themselves, but not nazis - far from it), etc. We have quite a large number of them, which I personally think to be a nice mosaic of cultures. The main channel of communication over here is the lists of discussion, and e-mail messages (with which activity is calculated - wrongly, I would say), and MSN for private communication and meetings. I've been battling for the the experimental usage of Fora, but it's difficult to fight tradition. I am a sort of exception, as a macro Portuguese, bacause the great majority of us are Brazilians. But things are changing, more european Portuguese-speakers are entering this fascinating world. There are still, unfortunetly, differences in the way both peoples see the world, but the language binds us together. I wouldn't like a separation just because some of us are in Europe and others in South America. I would be very interesting in deepening relations between our nations and open bridges between the two sectors. We share the same passion, why should language keeps us apart from cooperation ? I would like to invite you to visit our United Kingdom, as a member of our list. This implies receiving about a thousand messages per month, all in Portuguese, but I believe it would be interesting. I offer my services as a translator. Then I would like to create a Forum with one of the areas just for speaking english, where you could be more at ease.Perhaps you could create a mail in Yahoo.com. If doesn't sound as a good idea (i would sure find it a bit strange, but yet feasible if for a small period), please feel free to offer an alternative, which you think would be better. For the meanwhile, I'm translating a text which presents our micronation. I've used it to present ourselves in the OML - Organization of Lusophone Micromonarchies. Regards, Dom Jorge Quinta-NovaDuke of FaroPrime-MinisterDiplomatetc.I will show him this thread and continue looking into furthering relations. They call it a signature, but no one ever signs their posts...

Anyone who wants to receive a thousand messages a month in Portugese is welcome to post a message to the Ministry. Your medal will be sent in the post.Well done, Moose, you have done the Corps proud, and provided an impetus for the rest of us to work as hard. I will compose a message in reply to Dom Jorge soon, and bid him hello if he's watching right now.

That's exciting!I have an alternative suggestion: why don't we open-password an @shireroth.org account (something like CorpNeg@shireroth.org or Lusophone@shireroth.org) and then whoever wants to read it can, without cluttering up their own inboxes?Regardless of how we do it, I'd like to be attached to the mailing list. I can muddle my way through Portugese by way of Spanish classes, Orson Scott Card and Neal Stephensen novels, and Latin roots. Viatax Sitadi Axdivijink Regigoraauk

Nifty! There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

I like the idea of an open @shireroth.org address so that anyone can read them. I would like to take a look, as I can probably muddle through Portuguese about the same as Fax (with less Latin), but I really don't want that quantity of email flooding my inbox. *throws grenade for the hell of it*BO0O0O0O0/\/\!!!!!!

Fax, that would be a great idea. Perhaps a diplocorp@shireroth.org e-mail address for the whole organisation?
