While I am unfamiliar with this system, I am afraid that I have certain fundamental problems with it. Firstly, the title “ambassador” tends to attract the type of micronationalist whose attraction is solely for the title, and not for the amount of hard work or commitment needed to maintain such a system. Secondly, there is always a certain amount of embarrassment when an ambassador is appointed to another nation and the ambassadorÂ’s total time spent in said nation is minimal to say the least. In short, I do not agree that a system of ambassadors is the way forward. Instead I propose a different, more grass-roots system while I feel would be more advantageous, and which I have had personal experience of before. I propose the formation of a Shirerithian Diplomatic Corps, based on the system that operated in the Militarist Republic of Blackrock in 2000. This Corps would operate under the supervision of the Ministry of the Exterior, with myself and subsequent Ministers in charge as KorpSec. A ranking system will be established, whereby members are recruited at the lowest level and are allotted promotion and status as the KorpSec sees fit, through their political and diplomatic endeavour. The Diplomatic Corps, referred to as DiploKorp, would of course be subject to the normal jurisdictions of Landsraad and Kaiser, but otherwise would act according to the KorpSecÂ’s instructions. Upon recruitment, each member of DiploKorp will start at the lowest rank and be allocated a micronation to visit regularly and keep in touch with, essentially to remind them of ShirerothÂ’s presence and friendship towards them, or at least our presence in some cases. If they acquit themselves well in this duty, then they will receive a promotion. If their performance is satisfactory throughout their career, they can receive the title of ambassador, or whatever the equivalent title ends up being, perhaps with monetary benefits if an economy is set up by then. A hierarchy will thus be established, I feel, which will create a sense of achievement in diplomacy, and breed new energy into our foreign affairs.
