There's a subway spur that goes from JFK to Manhattan. Shouldn't be too hard to navigate.Scott, if you could Skype me tomorrow (I'll be on probably between 1 and 4 EST) and we can talk in greater detail about the event.

I don't have a working microphone these days and I fear anything that will make my comptuer use any more processing power than it already is, but replace Skype with AIM and I *may* be there towards the latter end of that time period.

The 2005 Shireroth Convention will be held in New York City on Saturday October 15 and Sunday October 16.Although these are the official days events will be held, anyone who can get there a day or two early or stay a day or two late is encouraged to do so and we can go around and see stuff on an unofficial basis. I will probably be staying late myself as that week is my fall break from school.No one lives in New York, so we will have to stay at a youth hostel. Normally I'd be fine with taking something like the subway, but as this will be an unfamiliar city very late at night, and I'll be travelling alone and with a suitcase, I'd really rather not. I'm not really comfortable with taking the subway alone at night, at least. Greg (Theonen) might be in the same boat as you.As for alternatives to the subway, there's a bus route into the city, or (if you're willing to pay a $45 flat fee) you can take a cab.

Foghorn, I think it's 3:30 EST right now; get on!Joe, if that weekend is your school's fall break, you can try checking the ride board (if they have one) for people who live in NYC and are driving back there. It should be pretty easy to find someone, since it's a common destination, and usual etiquette is to offer to pay for gas in exchange for being conveyed. Otherwise, I'm sure you can get a train or bus either direct or, more likely, via Boston.

Sorry. Major power outage in my area lasted until 5 PM EST. It's really hot out, and the power grid is feeling the effects.There's a direct train that goes straight from Boston to NYC to DC, no stops whatsoever. However, if that's too pricey, there's a regular Amtrak train that actually stops in New Rochelle before going into Penn Station in NYC.

Slight problem: I'm going to be in DC on that saturday, but I sould be back in time to escort you guys from the train. If I'm not, I'll have a backup plan in place.
