I can't believe how lucky I am and how awesome my schedule for next semester is. There's only one class in the list which is a distribution requirement (The US history one). Check this out:German Nationalism and National Identity & the Shadow of France*Name is pretty self-explanatory, I think. The development/invention of national identity is a huge subject of interest for me, so this looks delicious.State and Society in Imperial Russia*Always have to have one class about Russia per semester...at least United States 1914-1945*Distribution requirement, but those are some interesting years no matter where you are. Myth and History in Contemporary Balkan Literature*This is the diamond. One of my professors forwarded the information about this to me in an e-mail and I am very glad she did. The material looks awesome. Most of these names won't mean much to you but we're reading stuff by people who are pretty influential. Aside from the uber-big names like Ivo Andric (one book already read on the syllabus - Bridge on the Drina), we're also reading stuff from Dubravka Ugresic (a Croatian writer who had a severe political fall out with the old Tudjman government and went into self-imposed exile), Danilo Kis (Very famous Serbian author), Orhan Pamuk (very famous Turkish writer who has been in the news recently because Turkish courts have called for his arrests as he publically stated that he believed the Armenian genocide did in fact occur) and others. We're also watching some films, one of which is by Emir Kusturica who is a Serbian filmmaker. I have one of his movies called "Underground" which is very interesting.Italian Language*Yeah... SF-SN
