We must placate Google, Bringer of Knowlege

Unfortunately, being included as a deity in our religion isn't enough to make the Google search engine give us a top spot on their lists. What we have to do, if I understand some of the sites I've been reading correctly, is get lots and lots of links to our site.If any of you run sites and want to help, please link to
http://www.shireroth.org. The best way to do it would be in a way that includes the term "micronation" in the link text, like so:Shireroth - a micronationIf you can think of any other good keywords, use them too.

I typed in "Shireroth" into Google. First spot was the website. Second was this forum.Google apparently blesses you, unbelievers.

Nah, that's supposed to happen. But if someone is typing in "Shireroth", then chances are that they know enough about us to know where our forum and website are anyway. What we want are listings under "micronation", "Sonoma", "simulation", "politics", "feudalism", et cetera, so that people who don't already know who we are can stumble across us.

The trick is to leave burnt offerings at the door step of "The Great God Google" preferably chickens, or sheep, although from what I understand it has a great taste for images of the same.

Not much. PageRank works recursively, links matter a lot more on popular than obscure sites. That means that what we really want to do is the get these links "out there" to sites that the world links to... however, don't forget to keep honest. Remember Scott's campaign to advertise Treesia in roleplaying fora? If I'd known about his plans to do it, I'd have tried to stop him. Even customised posts can be spam if they're in the wrong place. Just follow the principle that you need to get the most out of whatever you do - therefore, please advertise only in communities where you've already built up a good, solid reputation. Do you really believe Project Bluebook revealed EVERYTHING the Army Air Corps knew? Do you know what REALLY happened at Roswell, New Mexico in the late 1940s? Have you even heard about the Men in Black? Do you have any friends who have `missing days'? Do you sleep with your window unlocked?Be seeing you...

Screw Google. Yahoo is not afraid to show potentially sensitive ads.

Yes, well, vastly more people use Google than use Yahoo, so it would be better to optimize our page for them. I'm not even sure what criteria the Yahoo search engine uses - I hope not meta tags...I was informed that I didn't need meta tags on the homepage because no one uses them any more, but now that's starting to sound a little hard to believe and I'm worrying maybe I should go back and add them.

What are you trying to make Shireroth show up for in Google? If you are targeting the keyword "shireroth" in google, then that is the most pointless thing ever. Anyone who wants to look up the micronation of Shireroth probably either already knows where it is or knows much more efficient methods of finding it.I'd say that if you want to target keywords on google, you should target "fun," "sex," "politics," "community," "friendship," "violence," "religion," "law," "news," "radio," "free speech," "life," and "presidential candidate." Then you'll be hitting people who don't already know about Shireroth.

He does have a point. So, if god is falliable, does that mean that this universe (or plane of existence, depending on your style of thought) could be nothing more than a metaphysical trashcan?Platypi point to this being true.

I think I'll pass on "sex", though...I think we'd be on Google page #2192903839404203039494 for that one.We are, as I mentioned, already number one for the term "Shireroth", thank Gahg.
