House Annexis

Since House Annexis is running around headless due to Greg Russel's LoA for most of the last month and a half, and since I am Annexis' only other member, I humbly petition Your Niftiness that I may be granted the titles of Steward of House Annexis and Emissary to the Landsraad on behalf of House Annexis.

It's not like you're all that active either.

Eh, it's a fair request though. Greg's on known indefinite leave.

By this point, I'm tempted to dissolve the House. Over a month of no posts, from anybody at all.
Frankly, there's cause for worry all around. House Kalir is inactive, and its Duke is on LOA, and they've discussed going Minor. House Kildare and House Mortis are somewhat better; but particularly in Kildare's case I'm still worried, though if/when Corey becomes Duke there I might get a bit less edgy. Is this another summer slump we have to ride out, or, as the
Tagblatt suggests, is it more serious than that?

A worthy question and worry, and one that seems to be increasingly shared by everyone. Without a doubt, we need to come up with some more effective recruitment methods, and fast. Too many of us old timers have other obligations and interests. I stated this hobby as a high school student - now I'm an engineer working 50ish hours a week, and I know I'm not the only one busy with life indefinitely (at least I hope - job hunting is awful!)
However, breaking things down now isn't and never has been the answer. The House rules were written for a more active time. Instead of dissolving things based on the rules, perhaps it is the rules that should give, so that the structure stays intact and we do not needlessly contribute to the feeling of decay and the end times.
Remember, we of the old Apollo Sector were convinced without a doubt that our corner of micronationalism would end in the later part of 2000 when the first nations began to die from inactivity. Shireroth, too, has completely collapsed a half dozen times or so. A decade later, we're still here. We can overcome this. It may be ugly, and it may require a paradigm shift that's uncomfortable, but we can survive.

Let's just maintain the houses as they are. Let them choose to merge, dissolve, etc as they wish.
House Mortis will always welcome Annexis.
But, we do need some new folk. Any folk. Most folk that hang about, and aren't driven off by being called "idiots" or having their work ridiculed, tend to contribute positively to the nation. So... yeah. we just need to reclaim folk. Maybe get some interesting things going on. Scott's Traquilizer to the nation did to good a job of killing all interest. We need to spice things up, without making it stressful or chaotic, or by being needless dicks to people.

Shireroth is fairly bi-polar.
and i've been around. I check Shireroth about every day, but I just haven't seen much worth posting over.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. Being told "that's not very tranquil" every time I tried to say something opinionated made it reaalll easy to want to stop posting.

Oh, you're around? Go hang in Nelaga! Making vague attempts to get things rolling over there. We're even in the middle of negotiations with Natopia for some old land.

There may have been an overcorrection with the tranquility. On the other hand, screaming matches aren't the most enjoyable things either, which we had been having yet earlier; I don't like being in a place where I'm bored out of my skull, but I'm just as likely to stay away when it looks like everyone is pissing everyone else off. But, as Greg said, we ever were bipolar...
Anyway, so what we're looking at here is:
-Get recruits.
-Convince recruits to stay on and not be intimidated by the vast amount of stuff they're not going to understand right away.
-Find a way to liven things up so that existing citizens who are, in fact, bored out of their skulls will be willing to return.
This last one is where I've been trying to figure out something since my reign started, and also been repeatedly failing to actually manage to do so. I wasn't really expecting to become Kaiser in the near future, and my head was full of maps when my reign started, so most of my ideas have tended in that direction. But most of them are unwieldy, because: a) making a good map is not an easy process, and b) incomprehensible as it is to me, I know that not everyone enjoys maps in and of themselves. I was hoping we could do something with a Musica invasion, but that seems to be suffering from a lack of actual combatants...
So basically, if anyone's got suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.

Mike and Scott are the two extremes.... yes.
I really would like to get on with that invasion. Wheren't we gonna invade Kildare?

My only suggestion is radical reform.

There's been an invasion thread in the Musica forum for the past few days.

As for Kildare... Yeah, we'd been waiting for Andreas or someone we could recwar against being available...
I had had a few ideas some months back for reform. One was less a matter of government than physical organization. It occurs to me that there's not really much direct interaction between counties, and that sort of bothers me; each county has its own little subforum and generally only one person posts in it and no one else ever seems to look at it... And, really, more should be going on BETWEEN counties, and not just at the House level. I think a lot of the compartmentalization would be broken down if county development were done in the House forum itself, maybe with a tag in the title to make it easier to search for county-related content; the subfora are better for organization and search of past posts, but I think that current development might be improved without them.

I was thinking that the ducal legislatures (such as the Diet of Yardistan and the Seanad Chill Dára) should be expanded upon.

Somebody fetch up Balgurd. It's time to fend off the end times and rebuild from a clean slate.

Um... The duchies have no administrative role anymore.

Kildare and Annexis inherited the ducal legislatures, plus I read somewhere here recently of a plan to revive the Duchies.

I'd be cool with that. I can certainly help with doomsday prophecies and the like.

That's something I've wondered about, too, at one point or another in the past, when activity was low. It'd certainly provide an excuse for a fresh start. Of course, it does mean that a really awesome and useful piece of mythology gets used up in the process; whipping out the apocalypse isn't something you can do very often without looking silly.
Still... to do it proper, we'd have to write the story of the battle, and it could be very awesome indeed... *ponders*

Back on topic.

From his statements in this thread, and from his last comment in his
LOA thread, I would say that unless he makes a statement to the contrary, he is not on leave of absence anymore. Being around and refraining from posting is different from not posting at all.
