.......and heard a voice say, "Look! He moved!"
A fainter voice droned,"Merely a random muscle fluctuation. The EEG shows nothing that could be considered as a conscience. Or consciousness, for that matter. My patient needs that heart, gnarly as it is."
A something whirred. "A saw", he thought languidly. "They are going to cut my heart out. Well, waste not, want not. .........No, think about that. Blood all over the place. Besides, then I would be dead."
Saw. Cut. Dead.
SAW. CUT. DEAD.
SAW. CUT. DEAD.!?!!!
He heard another voice, this one seemed to be inside -- his skull?
"SIT UP, IDIOT!"
He sat up. Several voices cheered. He heard a louder whirring, smelled - Ozone? - and his eyes flew open in time to see the head of white-clad figure to his left explode in a cloud of sparks.
"Now rest, you've had a rough morning." said the inner voice.
He rested.
