The current Immigration policy

I'm noticing a bit of a trend in the current Immigration policy, whereby the current Minister of Immigration's first (and indeed all subsequent) replies to new immigrants involve efusive exhortations for the newly immigrated to join the Dutchy of Kildare.
Now whether this is a problem depends on the Kaiser's opinion of what his Ministers should be doing. Should they be running the Ministry as many government departments are run in my own meat-space country viz a viz, as a constituency office for their home region, or should they act as an impartial Kaiserial agent while in these roles, working for the betterment of all.
Of course I have no problem with people persuading others to join their Duchies in the immigration threads, and no problem with Kildare. It's just that Dutch Jonas seems to be taking it to extremes, to the extent of perhaps overwhelming natural preference (like, say, joining the Duchy of Elwynn....or something).

Not that the Duchy of Elwynn is sparsely populated or anything... But I see your point. According to law, the Minister should recommend Straylight at the moment, since it is the Duchy with the fewest residents. It would really be preferable if Minister Jonas would keep his Ministerial duties separate from his Dutch status.
EDIT: Yeah, after having reviewed a couple of applications, Minister Jonas has a tendency to combine his citizenship approving post with his poaching for citizens.

Addressed after a fashion.

Never meant it that way.

To the extremis? I have seen more extreme calls for joining someone's Duchy. The only 'extreme' part of my posts is that I ask it, while thereafter telling their application is approved.
To be honest, I don't see the big problem of it, except that I prevent myself of double posting. The only thing I have to say is that the application are approved or denied, and I have never denied anyone access if they joined another Duchy (sorry that I advertise for my Dutchy

).
But if there are people who have troubles with it, I will from now on post my messages in separated posts, that's even better for my personal postcounts.
Minister Jonas has a tendency to combine his citizenship approving post with his poaching for citizens.
No, there is always some empty space between the sentences.

Best make it a follow on post.

Well, I'm willing to take it a bit further. I've never liked the never-ending duchy campaign. "Hi, my duchy is so awesome and great, and we have AN OPEN COUNTRY! You could be a COUNT! It's like being awesome, except that means you have no political power and three bosses! Hellz yeah!"
Couldn't ever muster the enthusiasm myself really.

I don't really see the problem with this. Remember, the reasonwe don't have ministerial wages is that you tend to get some sort of perk anyway merely by being in the position of a minister and doing your work properly. For most ministries that perk is that it's easy to get your work noticed for bountying purposes. I think it'd be entirely fair that MiniImNat's perk is that you get to recommend your home duchy in the same breath as you tell the new guy zir immigration has been approved. It has pretty much always been a hand-me-down ministry that goes to whoever happens to not have a position of significance at the time the old minister drops off the face of Micras or something... maybe this incident could help it become a more sought-after and competed-for position.

... that said, the law *is* clear on the matter:
Lawbook 1.6.4.E.1. wrote:If a new citizen applies, and leaves their preferred Subdivision choice as "Undecided" or empty, or does not otherwise specify a home territory, the Minister of Immigration has a duty to allocate the new citizen a place in an underpopulated Duchy or Fief. However, this in no way enables the Minister of Immigration force immigrants to join Duchies or Fiefs against their will, nor shall they be forced to leave any Duchy or Fief.
So, uh, consider my previous statement of approval amended where necessary to not contradict this

Kildare is underpopulated! The law doesn't say: the most underpopulated Duchy or Fief.

Doesn't matter. You don't recommend Straylight at all, or Brookshire, or Yardistan, or Goldshire, that's probably the point we are trying to make.

I'm not forced to do that, I just give them a stamp.

When they can't pick one for themselves, or won't, you're forced to recommend an underpopulated duchy, and I for one would prefer if it wasn't Kildare all the time.

Perhaps a good compromise for all parties involved would be to not mention any particular Duchy when the prospective citizen does not make a selection.
Instead, the list and population of the Duchies should be provided to the applicant by the Minister in the form of a reply.
This way, all Duchies are represented equally and the applicant has the knowledge that he or she requires.

I've felt this way from the beginning, but it hasn't stopped the rampant advertisements. The problem is, like real advertisements, the people that yell the loudest get the most attention and the people that respectfully don't infringe upon others are ignored.

Not true, I have seen more then once how a good speech wins from shouting.
That being said, we have to look for a new minister.

Pick me, pick me!
Or, you know, pick the most qualified...
