Already done by the Kaiseress while I was asleep, so, a gift instead of a yar:
A flat metal container the size of a cigar box, connected by a thin rubber hose to a clear plastic face mask. On top of the box is a small LCD readout, a numeric keypad, and a blue button. The device is calibrated in days - a person wearing the mask who enters a number into the device and pushes the blue button will smell the odors that were present in the current location, that number of days ago.
