Lol, Deja Vu

You know, these long running disputes over the economy and how much it should be incorporated into Shirithian life, with several people with strong opinions on either side, reminds me of ...

:D

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Oh, that's hilarious .... :D :D :D :D :D

*wipes a tear from eye* I'm better ... it reminds me of the opposition magic encountered in Novatainia at the start. We had several people interested, and one or two members really put off by it. We eventually settled on an agreement where we were allowed to continue magic in a secret subforum and not mention it outside. Then, in good Shirithian style, we mages outlived the others and magic is now free and happy in Novatainia.

Now, Shireroth doesn't need a solution anywhere near that extreme, but ideas are coming to mind that may be able to resolve this matter suitably so that those who aren't interested in the economy don't need to worry about it messing up the nation they love, and those who want to develop the economy further don't need to worry about having ideas shot down every time. But before I go into it further, I'd like to do slightly more research. Would people have huge objections to filling out a short, anonymous survey (but like the Census) so I can actually get the opinions of a majority of Shirithians on economic issues - instead of just the people very strongly for or against?

EDIT: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform ... JLUVE6MA..
The economic Census. Please fill it out. Pick the option that most suits your view. Only use others if you really, really need to (its easier to work out results if you go with a view you're fairly sure on instead of adding an other that's perfect).

Thanks to the six people who have already filled this out. I'd appreciate if everyone else can fill it in too when they get a chance. When I'm getting a number near 15 responses, then I know I have the responses from most active Shirithians.

Something I wrote in the commentary box that I figured other people might like to see, too...
I responded from a strictly Shirithian POV, my opinions on what "should" happen in micronational economies in general are rather more liberal.

On "How should you earn money in an economy" : Mere posting shouldn't count, humans have perfectly good wiring to make them like people they socialise with anyway. Holding land certainly shouldn't count in Shireroth where borders don't change all that often.

"Should you spend money on resources/building/production?": I'm neither a fan of MITO nor of the Kildarian economy. I don't mind other people doing it, but to me it seems a lot like a game except without an actual game design that would draw you in, allow you to make interesting strategic decisions rather than micromanage numbers, etc.. I'd rather just fire up Civ :p.

"Should people spend money on roleplaying?": Shirithians carefully observe the Apollo sector tradition of Never Actually Finishing A Roleplaying Thread (I think we tried to take them too seriously instead of making them all wacky and twisty like expeditions, so people got bored, and now we oldtimers are all convinced they won't ever work), so I don't think many people would be interested in buying items. Besides, personally I prefer not to use an author avatar character in roleplaying threads anyway, so if I did buy items they'd have to be single-use anyway...
Ninja edit: ... actually, no, I withdraw my criticism of MITO (though not of the Kildarian economy) for now. I haven't been following it all lately, so I don't actually know if people are doing interesting thing with it. Uhh, Andreas, are they?

Right now I can think of two possible single use items.
Services from a lawyer.
Services from the programming guild.
Let me think ~ a cartographers´ guild could be a single use item; you know a map for some reason.

Ari - the point re the Kildarian Economy is fine, I've made the same point myself in the past. But Austi was quite interested and so I've run with it. I don't expect it'll ever catch on too much, but it' Hesam's plans for a full GSO system.
MITO - MITO's actually an awful lot simpler than the Kildarian economy (deliberately so). I think its fun and interesting but that's just me. Some kinds of number crunching I enjoy.

Post count payment is for Novatainia, who enjoy that and don't do enough cultural things to fully bountify. Land is for CITRA Toketi where you have a system to change land by war. Obviously its no good for Shireroth, :document

Roleplaying's also a Novatainian thing. Just gauging interest on a couple things perhaps no one in Shireroth ever thought of before.

Thanks to the 3 more people who have filled it out. 9 filled in, ~6 to go!

Some of the results are quite conclusive, and others are just quite interesting ... (I won't say what because that might influence further votes).

I really have no interest in doing it. I looked it over and got half way through and realized that I didn't care. Does that count as a response?

Yes, at least for numbers.
