Seperation of church and pun.

Maybe it's just a Bible Belt deal, but every church in our area with a sign needs to put a pun on it to try and make it funny. As a pizza delivery driver who passes these signs 30-40 hours a week, I demand that there be a law against this. Some examples:

"Seven days without prayer makes one weak."

"Forbidden fruit makes many jams."

"Jesus died for Myspace in heaven."

That last one especially made me groan. Please, enlighten me as to whether your area churches do this, and if they do, please share the pain. :jesus

same thing in my area. It must be a baptist thing because a Catholic church wouldn't dare do that.

My church doesn't, but I know a couple churches in the area that do.

I used to have a book with some of these. A lot of them were unintentionally funny, ie "Don't let worries kill you - let the church help!"

My old synagogue used to have a deal with the church next door. On big Jewish holidays, when lots of people would be going to synagogue, the church would let us use their parking lot after ours filled up, and then on big Christian holidays when the church would be overcrowded, we'd reciprocate. So one time on Rosh Hashanah (very important Jewish holiday), the synagogue put a sign up in the parking lot saying "SYNAGOGUE FULL. GO TO CHURCH INSTEAD."

That's a great story, Scott. :D

So, Catholocism doesn't use puns, but Baptist do? What about other protestant branches?

I think they're trying to attract younger people, in some disturbingly camp and cheezy way.

My church doesn't do that, and I'm Episcopalian.

I have seen those before, but we don't have too many Baptist churches around, so I don't see them a lot.

I live in Charlotte, NC - 'the buckle of the bible belt'. Baptist churchs are everywhere!

I went to church camp for quite a few years XD I enjoyed it. not so much the bible study portions but the rest was fun especially when I went to horse camp at the same church camp ^_^

Also my church (Methodist) has funny phrases on our sign. I always liked reading them XD I dislike churches that DON'T put up funny phrases! I'm really hoping the church I'm checking out next weekend has a good one. (I'm thinking of switching churches to one closer to school which also happens to be of the religion, Unitarian Universalist, that I discovered recently and am really interested in)

UU aye? I had a psych teacher who was married to a minister in that church..... she was was a pretentious bitch and a bad teacher. I got in a fun argument in class with her over the nature of "aggression" as it was being defined in Social Psych.
