Do you kill people in games for fun?
Naturally yes.
And by that same logic does that make you a murderer in the real world?
While there is a time and a season for everything - in this instance no, the motive and the opportunity remain poles apart...
In this instance, I believe the legality of "ravishing" was in a satirical and absurd sense. Thus, we are merely stacking on to the absurdity by making this gender-inclusive. Honestly, I kinda laughed when the idea was first brought up. Now you're detracting from my fun and its silliness by having a meaningful and angered discussion about this? What the hell people! And I thought the Babkhans would be the ones laughing at this with me!

I did think we were laughing at this - it is quite funny that we would introduce measures to ensure gender equality with regards to what is essentially state sanctioned barbarism. I'd even thought up the bureaucratic mechanism that would monitor the changed law -
Ravishment and Molestation Balancing Organisation: RAMBO for short. But in any event I regarded the original statute as a quaint barbarous anachronism that ought to be preserved on its own merits.
Anyway I'd much rather have my fictional self murdered by outraged Amazons, indeed it would be a good story in its own right, rather than anyone do anything so silly as resign over this.

Ardashir--
The problem is not the give-and-take discussions here on the Shireroth forum. Those are not the issue. The concerns arrise when the issue becomes fodder for the micronational universe, and a person, rather than a fictional identity is maligned. Not being able to tell truth from fantasy, some might believe what is printed about the character of the real person. This is tabloid journalism, not true reporting.
The idea that a Shirithian would encourage this type of article by someone who doesn't understand the nature of Shireroth, has already led to hurt feelkings, and could easily become injurious to someone's real life reputation. I do not see this as silly, as you apparently do.

I always thought Shireroth's sense of humour was terrible. I thought it was obvious and lacked subtance. But after reading this I have to apologize, because this thread is fucking hilarious.

The beauty of Shireroth (all praise the Founder and his popcorn) is that it is an amazingly "big tent". Under the boughs of Malarbor nestle gentle pixie beings on one side, and, well, Ardashir. And the Tree shades them both.
As well he should. The irreconcilable opposites synthesized into one.
I'm going to stop now before I get overly philosophical.
I've got to arrange to ship some kielbasa.

Carol,
I understand your point but I think there is another side to this - everyone's identity in this hobby is to a greater or lesser extent a narrative construct, certainly our perspectives inform our actions and our emotions seep through onto the page from time to time, but we are ultimately operating in an 'unreal' fictive context. As long as no one outside the hobby is going to accost Pandora, or Will and Hesam for that matter, and berate them for stances they have taken or commentary they have provided, really, things are relatively fine. We can afford to be a bit more detached as our disputes and controversies are, ultimately, transient.

Hesam, get on MSN... unless of course you're busy working out how to rescue Georgia from "the shit".

Sorry old boy, I must have missed you. As for Georgia, it was summarily put in it's place by those Oily Gazprom Cossacks.

Ardashir--
I happen to agree with your perspective about our fictional identities. It is hard sometimes for a newcomer to be detached, however, when the venue is suddenly changed and the rules are all different. I enjoy the fictitious characters and the roleplay here in Shireroth, though I am not accomplished at it by any means. I am also not being scrutinized outside of Shireroth without being prepared for it. All of us have seen how, when someone who is not experienced in micronations arrives, there is usually a learning curve, and the shock of "being in the spotlight" can be overwhelming, especially when that spotlight is not in one's normal, accustomed environment. The situation, as Pandora perceives it, is that she was accosted outside of Shireroth. She does not know about other micronations and their perspectives, and this article came out of the blue, so to speak. Her perspective is, I believe, valid for her, and it was upsetting to find herself in the middle of a situation she was unprepared for. The Shireroth forum is home ground, and a friendly environment. The INS is not.
Hesam--
I am thrilled we are able to provide you with such riveting entertainment. However, there is a real person who has received what is to her a great personal injury and, say what we might, levity is not appropriate here.

Not in Shireroth. Because rights can never be given, they must be taken.

I think I will establish an alternative venue. Khanbucks; overpriced frothy milk with the vague hint of coffee... AND IF YOU DON'T ORDER A PASTRY TO GO WITH THAT YOU WILL BE TAKEN OUTSIDE AND SHOT!

Is Khanbucks stock going for a ridiculously low price due to market saturation, an ageing brand and rampant mismanagement?

No, Zurvan be praised, we have put the infidel imitators Costa Coffee, Coffee Republic and Café Nero et al to the sword, literally. The masses shall have no choice but to savour the ubiquitous blandness of our offerings and pay over the odds accordingly.
