They've been owned by one or the other (or both) for, like, 99% of their history...

Totally and utterly untrue my dear chap. Neither Russia or Germany have even existed for 99% of the period of Poland's historical existence (1025AD until today). Prior to the partitions in the late 18th century Poland was one of the
largest and most powerful countries in Europe. So Poland is most certainly not a love child of Germany and Russia Jess.

America, on the other hand. The mal-formed affection baby of France and England!

That would be Canada. The US does not have any relevant French culture remaining.
(Fine, New Orleans, but Cajun, like the city itself is nearly tragically extinct).

The whole New World is Europe's mid-millennial effluent, packed into a sealed barrel for a few centuries and allowed to ferment and gassify, which is now in the process of exploding all over us.

Yes,
My apologies for that. Canada is doing it's best to maintain some civility in the face of our neighbours. But it's difficult when the majority of the population have no interest in politics.

Think of (us) U.S. as Mother England's own little Frankenstien! And we even sewed ourselves up, split into two, and sewed ourselves together bigger than ever.
(Kind of like Prodigy.)
(Growl. Snort. AAARGGhh!)
Now, back to the Polish comment. Poland was the superpower of Europe for about two centuries. The mighty Ottoman Emperor at the high of his power quailed in fear before the wrath of John III Sobieski, King of Poland, saviour of Western Civilization.
An unfortunate super-extention of power by the nobles lead to it's collapse, a series of partions by the Russians, Prussians and Austrians. The statement of German / Russianism is the result of Russian and Germanic propaganda dating from the 17th century.
Poland was stabbed in the back again in 1939, surprisingly enough by Gemany and Russia, and did not regain true independence until the fall of Communism.
Poland today is relatively safe, based on the courage of her people, the pledged word of the NATO alliance and the three nuclear arsenals within said.
Off soapbox.
My very first micronation was Polish.
A reasonable primer:

(It's amazing that when one looks into the history of almost any country, there is a Noble Empire in there somewhere!)

Funny. I know all about Poland's history, being a veteran player of CK and EU3... but still... I'm always waiting for it to get eaten up by Russia or Germany. Sorry.

Perhaps the opposite one day.
Back in the stone age (my school days), since we had a Polish nation going, some not terrible brilliant kids started a German one, and thought the could win a war against us just because they were "Germans".
They got some other kids to be "Turkey" and "Bulgaria".
We kicked their asses, annexed them, and declared a Polish Empire.
(No, I wasn't Emperor.)

EU2 and MIITW but I hear you. As far as I can work out the only former Empire that isn't going to suffer a long term demographic collapse is Turkey... viva Othman!

Well they came from Central Asia, they killed or expelled the Armenians and Greeks, they conquered Iraq, Syria, Egypt and the Balkans and then had to give up all of that when they got their arses kicked in the Great War. They have now been reduced to Anatolia and divide their time between guest-working in Germany and taking out their insecurities on their Kurdish minority.
