wait, which idea was this? The space one wasn't meant to really be a new mapping organisation, the other one was only considered while debating the Jokerdom claim
There were parts in there like what you had mentioned before in the MI forums (which have been lost to me), so this was the best I had...

I think you and I have the same view of micronationalism, oh Kaiser.

One of the more ... nifty bits about my idea though was it gave a reasonable reason for claims and all that. We were going to create the world from magic and so it'd be a little ... unstable. You know, overnight empty land would suddenly be filled with cities that had been there for centuries, the physical nature would change depending on what the government wanted (if you could defend it with decent backstory), and even the odd new continent might pop up ...

Personally, I believe the role of the MCS is to provide decent continents, and a map for every micronation that wants one. Makingecisions about the amount of land based on culture/history/activity etc is admirable, but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to use the land exactly how I want to - if I want tropical islands within 500 km of snowy moutains that don't happen to be on the physical map, why not? But that might just be me ...
But I agree with you, we don't want a new organisation, we just want to improve the old one ...

Well, then ignore the physical map...

Don't worry, we do. It's just a pity we can't get the other side to do so in wars ...

yeah.. sometimes I think that was a mistake on our part to make...

I honestly never expected the MCS to work and last this long... and to be so widely used...

Well, if Duke Ari will vote in favor of my controversial proposal, I wouldn't mind exchanging an obscure claim or two for the sancts...... :document

And why not? I'm surprised one has not been created (appropriated) before now. :thumbsup

Well Harold, we've always taken our land seriously in Novatainia - that's why I'm actually quite glad we were only allowed tiny claims when we joined. Instead of trying to expand quickly, we built up a whole ton of culture around those 4 (and after our first expansion) 8 cities, which still remain the best developed, or at least, best understood, cities in Novatainia. We had cliffs, caves, a snowy mountain range, forests, farms, everything that a normal nation would have in probably 3x the land in that little chunk ...
And it quite annoys me that people might say, "but it's not on the physical map, you don't have a mountain there." The Barrier most certainly is there ...

And I figure anyone else who can sufficiently justify their land should be allowed to get the physical map and climate they want ...

I happen to agree--this is virtual territory, after all. It's not as if there were a real one-to-one correspondence between the MCS maps and what you find on the ground. This is all imagined territory. Why can't a nation imagine novelty and uniqueness into being within their own territory? It might not make geographic sense on a terrestrial map, but who's to say things such as these can't coexist side-by-side here on Micras?

I've been playing around with programs for representing heightmaps and terrain recently. If anyone's making a new mapping organization, I'll sign on as graphics designer (until finals start, at least!)

Bah to new organizations. Shireroth will support no such organizations.
