Getting Started
To The Court,
I will require a report on the status of Shireroth from the Landsraad as well as any active Ministries. Any and all ministries that are vacant or inactive I will also need to know about.
I need all nobles and ministers to review the proposals I've put forth in the Landsraad Front Gate, and I would like opinions on the values of each as well as what should be addressed first. For all things I haven't mentioned, I also need those presented according to precedence and merit.
For now, I have a number of issues I want a general opinion on. Some of these are not palatable but they have to be addressed considering my position, I ask that they be valued as objectively as possible:
1. Foreign Policy: Shireroth has lost alot of the foreign influence we once had. Shall we retain our current semi-isolationism? or will we move toward taking a greater role in the events of Micras?
2. Internal sectarianism: Shireroth has a very involved culture, to a great extent many of us only participate in one aspect of the nation (ie native Baronies etc..) should there be an initiative to bring more focus to the common forums? Or "don't fix what isn't broken?"
3. Our Allies: Gralus, Antica and whether people like it or not, Babkha are our amoung our closest friends. Is there any interest in developing these friendships further if we do decide to adopt a stronger foreign policy?
4. Land: After the recent expansion, do we really need any more?
5. Micronations.net: I realize that with our solidarity with Nick, there isn't much appetite for MN.net right now, however, I don't believe there is any sense in ignoring another community hub other than the MCS. Could we act as a mediator? is it worth it?
6. My Babkhan history: I want everything out on the table. I know a lot of people have their doubts about me, and I want to give the opportunity to voice those doubts maturely. But if you're going to complain, I also want solutions. Reason being is that Babkha is a good friend of ours, and I want to be able to interact with them without being accused of treason, so speak your peace.
7. Apollo: We have alot of old guard lurking around these days, I believe there is some value in inviting them back. Is there a general consensus on this?
Speak Your Mind.

Re: Getting Started
1. While our internal happiness is important, and our isolationism is working well, I invite all to consider the influence we could have on Micras. Among our citizenry we have virtually all of the oldest and most respected micronationalists, as well as leaders of about half the superpowers on Micras - Natopia, Babkha, Stomark, Antica and Gralus. If we remain united inside, then our words outside have the potential to be greatly respected.
However, an active foreign policy tends to come, sooner or later, into the matter of war. Shireroth would have to decide whether we are interested in participating in external recwars, or whether the very strength I mentioned above (citizens in many prominent nations) is a military weakness - that we cannot rely on the full force of our military in any one war.
2. I'd call it internal Duchies, not baronies, but yes, I see what you mean. It would make more interesting activity if we visited other ones (for example, Kildare has been rather dead lately).
3. Yes, definitely if we adopt a stronger foreign policy. If we don't, I still think it would be good. I know we'd appreciate the odd Shirithian visitor around Gralus ...
4. Probably not. If we do want it, go for unclaimed (and Cognito, which Jacobus has had his eyes on, has already had one nation try and claim there. If we do want it, we need to claim it soon, and that would probably be all expansions for a long time ...)
7. Definitely - we should make Shireroth the hub of all the old micronationalists - we are probably the oldest nation left, and often referred to as inheritors of Apollo - lets keep it up. Someone remarked about new people having to learn about Shireroth to get properly involved - the old guard knows the basics at least ...
Besides, there's a chance for the end of CoD 2

Re: Getting Started
1. We are doing well nowadays. It looks like if we're isolated from the rest, our power grows. But I will support war if there is planned one.
2. I don't really know. Every Duchy must has it's own period of glory and activity. Kildare hasn't on the moment.
3. Like most of you know, I'm Batavian. And I'm not very happy that You make a list with only three of our allies. I hope the list will be, eventuelly, a little bit longer then it's now.
4. I think you know my answer about that matter...
5. Let stay where we are. I don't have the feeling we must take one side.
6. You were a Babhkan?
If You don't make Shireroth a puppet state of Babhka, I'm happy enough and you will have my support. But that doesn't mean I don't support Loki anymore, ofcourse.

I was using three nations as an example, and since it wasn't an exclusive comment, I didn't feel it necessary to list all of our friends.

1. Foreign Policy: Shireroth has lost alot of the foreign influence we once had. Shall we retain our current semi-isolationism? or will we move toward taking a greater role in the events of Micras?
In my eyes, Shireroth needs to be more active in the MCS, pissy spangle has a fit a the time over that.
2. Internal sectarianism: Shireroth has a very involved culture, to a great extent many of us only participate in one aspect of the nation (ie native Baronies etc..) should there be an initiative to bring more focus to the common forums? Or "don't fix what isn't broken?"
No, Each Barony should have its own citizens, its like hopping all over Micras.
3. Our Allies: Gralus, Antica and whether people like it or not, Babkha are our amoung our closest friends. Is there any interest in developing these friendships further if we do decide to adopt a stronger foreign policy?
Yes, but that will take time
4. Land: After the recent expansion, do we really need any more?
Hell Yes
5. Micronations.net: I realize that with our solidarity with Nick, there isn't much appetite for MN.net right now, however, I don't believe there is any sense in ignoring another community hub other than the MCS. Could we act as a mediator? is it worth it?

I have no say, as I am a n00b

Re: Getting Started
I think we might consider expanding the Mango-Camel Pact to include perhaps some mutaul friends of Babkha and Shireroth. I am remembering the old Commonwealth of Benacia. While I'm not calling for shared citizenship and other crazy things that it had. perhaps a larger alliance coallition of large nation. Like NATO or something like that. And see where it goes.
As for Things concerning apollo... I think anyone of the old guard knows my feelings on that. Apollo was not Shireroth. And Shireroth was not apollo. And while I recognize we eventually absorbed much of their lands, and people, and even some traditions. We are our own thing, and I don't like the idea of trying to infuse old outmoded Apollo culture back into the nation. (Not sure this brought up here.. just nipping in the bud. )
I was trying to make a bigger presence in the MCS when I was Kaiser, but lost free time so had to back off. I think we need a constant, coherent and rational presence in the MCS forums.

Re: Getting Started
Alright, I'm getting a general idea of what people want.
I'm going to put up a foreign policy specific to each country and organization, this policy will be the basis of how we interact with the community, mere guidelines, not rules.
As for Apollo, Erik, I know your opinion but like it or not, Shireroth inherited the mantle of Apollo along time ago. I don't want to make Shireroth an Apollo nation, but I think we could do well by atleast honouring what it did for the sector. None the less, I won't let Apollo over shadow Shireroth, that's not my style, but I do want to put forth an initiative if we can get enough of the old guard involved. To ensure I don't over step that line, You'll have the veto of anything I put forth regarding Apollo, You're the architect of this nation so it's not my place to change your design.
Regarding your specific mention of a "NATO"-like organization, that is definitely doable. I can think of atleast five nations which would be willing to engage in this. And since the current status quo means most nations are getting along fairly well, there would be a good reception for this. I would also like this to tie into the economic side of things, but that's further on still.
Also, Erik are you still on AIM or have you converted to MSN yet?

Re: Getting Started
I'm all for economic development and ties internationally.
Just remember with NATO like organisations ... YAMO. They have to be kept together by more than just "hey, we're some big nations, let's work together." Personal friendships, especially between leaders, are much more binding. Gralus may be interested in something like that, but it'd depend who's involved ... I know not all Gralans are big fans of Babkha (nothing personal, Hasan)

Move outward slowly. Trust the trustworthy, interview the newcomers. But leave enough wiggle room that we can go it alone, if need be.

Don't fix what isn't broken. Encourage it, whatever "it" is.
3. Our Allies: Gralus, Antica and whether people like it or not, Babkha are our amoung our closest friends. Is there any interest in developing these friendships further if we do decide to adopt a stronger foreign policy?
France and Britain were enemies for ages, and allies since 1903, '05, well, over a hundred years. The are still harsh words exchanged. I imagine Shireroth and Babkha like that. We should strengthen all of our friendships, whether a stronger foreign policy comes about or not.
Perhaps some type of tourism can be promoted between us. I was just beginning to explore Babkha when I was called home by (no, no, its still too soon........)
4. Land: After the recent expansion, do we really need any more?
Yes. The Mango Map, eventually, forever, peacefully! Malarbor's map someday!
5. Micronations.net: I realize that with our solidarity with Nick, there isn't much appetite for MN.net right now, however, I don't believe there is any sense in ignoring another community hub other than the MCS. Could we act as a mediator? is it worth it?
We should support our own equally with others. We should make use of whatever hubs are not tied to a particular regime.

See my answer #3 above. I will also answer anyone with reservations about my Cyberian past, as well. We also must remember that Babkha has its own factions its own internal struggles, and we should try to understand them. Babkhan culture is far beyond salt mines and conflict.
7. Apollo: We have alot of old guard lurking around these days, I believe there is some value in inviting them back. Is there a general consensus on this?
Yes. The memories, the histories, the talent would best be put to use in and for the best nation out there. Here, that is. Of course as possibly the "longest active" microantionalist,
I'm a little prejudiced in that regard.

Situation Report: Update
1. Foreign Policy: Shireroth has lost alot of the foreign influence we once had. Shall we retain our current semi-isolationism? or will we move toward taking a greater role in the events of Micras?
Jess is now appointed Ambassador to The Kingdom of Babkha. His instructions would usually originate from Ari. However since Ari has been busy with macronational issues, Stewart Jacobus will be Jess' point of contact for instruction. Domestically, Jess' can also contact Babkha through The County of Lesser Zjandaria. The Khan of Vijayanagara is well versed in the customs of Babkha and is cousin to a very high ranking Emir in Babkha.
2. Internal sectarianism: Shireroth has a very involved culture, to a great extent many of us only participate in one aspect of the nation (ie native Baronies etc..) should there be an initiative to bring more focus to the common forums? Or "don't fix what isn't broken?"
No Change
3. Our Allies: Gralus, Antica and whether people like it or not, Babkha are our among our closest friends. Is there any interest in developing these friendships further if we do decide to adopt a stronger foreign policy?
I spoke with the Babkhan Grand Vizier this afternoon, and I informed Babkha of Jess' appointment. Andreas has commented on the possibility of a multi-national alliance however nothing is cemented so far. I prefer to work through MSN so I would appreciate some IM contacts, feel free to send them via PM. This is not just restricted to the nations listed but all of our friends. In addition I will be making a global tour soon and hope to improve the ties we have with our neighbors.
4. Land: After the recent expansion, do we really need any more?
I haven't approached this issue yet but I will be in contact with the MCS about our plans. It's my opinion that we should go forward with an expansion. We may not need land but there is more value in moving forward than doing nothing.
5. Micronations.net: I realize that with our solidarity with Nick, there isn't much appetite for MN.net right now, however, I don't believe there is any sense in ignoring another community hub other than the MCS. Could we act as a mediator? is it worth it?
I've set up a proper Shirerothian account for myself and have posted a few times, nothing serious, just maintaining presence.
6. My Babkhan history: Most things are settled it seems, so lets let it be.
7. Apollo: We have a lot of old guard lurking around these days, I believe there is some value in inviting them back. Is there a general consensus on this?
I Spoke with Bill this evening. While he was hesitant about returning to Shireroth, there is the possibility that he will participate in some form. He's said for anyone who wishes to contact him, PM me and I will send your contact information to him.
He's done some excellent work with micras maps recently. Showed me an elevation map of Micras which is bordering on professional work done by cartographers.
Next,
As I requested a list of active Ministers all I've received is Hypatias Mom as Minister of Immigration and Ari as Minister of The Exterior. My Stewart acts as my Chief Of Staff and therefore requires an active cabinet to be effective. As a result I have to appointments to make:
- The Khan of Vijayanagara will be Minister of Military Affairs. I know of no one in this community who is more accomplished and capable to manage this Ministry.
- If the position is vacant (and it seems it is) Andreas will be Minister of Information. If you're going to suffix your name with "The Wise", it had better be put to use. Andreas, true to Shireroth's tradition, this is the most extensive ministry in my realm. You seem well suited to administrate it if you so wish.
- Erik, as you are Arbiter, Please appoint a standing Crown Attorney and a standing Defence Council. As you stated, a defendant or plaintiff (as the case may be) can choose zir own council, however a standing council is necessary just in case. (ie when and if the economy comes into play, its all what you pay for)
- I will continue drafting the economy, and will begin preparations for our initiative to the MCS. Jacobus, you and I will need to speak regarding the later to determine a course of action.
If any noble has contention with the goals set out so far, state it. It will be presented and resolved in the Landsraad and I will honour the decision made there.

I will begin searching for Inquisitors... (as the term was)

The Duke of Kildare doesn't complain.
I hope the new ministers will do their work well.

From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

I'll try my best, my Kaiser.
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:

Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy
And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

The Kaiser's new proposal makes me think it might be a good idea. Sadly.. I AM strapped for time and energy. Though I got lots of the basics working.

Re: Getting Started
If you don't have time, thats understandable, I think there is someone who I can approach about this though. Because without an automated Bank, the system simply doesn't function as smoothly.

Re: Getting Started
I would like to work under the MiniTrade as Assistant Minister of Banking Development or something. I'm still going to work on the bank. I might be able to get something up in a week or 2. Maybe a month before I can get it to what we need completely. I really lack the time to put into this.

Re: Getting Started
My thought was approaching Spangle about it. He might do it out of interest. That would save you the work and me as well. (was at the office for 16 hours yesterday thus the reason I didn't post)

Re: Getting Started
Perhaps. Though I do take some pride of the idea of a Shireroth bank made for Shireroth by someone from Shireroth (even if it's not me).
