Micronational Che

Is there someone who acted as a sort of micronational equivalent of Che Guevara?

Baracao was based on revolutionary Cuba. Its founder was William Howard, but its most charismatic and beloved leader was probably Alarico Veto Cguilia (Dafydd Young). He'd be my choice.

Mmhm. It has become somwhat of a fashion to see Che as the 'face of revolution'- that very same phrase coming from people who'd have no doubts about voting Tory the first time you asked them.

Yeah, I know. But it's the ultimate irony that his picture has been put on a T-Shirt for everyone to buy and instantly turn their boring indie outfit into a "rebel" indie outfit. He's been turned into a fashion item. It's specifically for that reason that I ask.

William Howard did not found Baracao. Baracao was co-founded by William Howard, Daffyd Young, Kuraylov and myself.

As I recall it, I came up with the theme and the fake revolution, Daffyd came up with the name and was architect of the 2nd republic which destroyed the founding history, and William Howard and Kuralyov were just there. Eventually Daffyd and William consolidated control and removed everyone elses admin powers because it turned out to be somewhat successful.

As for a micronational Che, I'd say it would be Kuralyov. He was the only socialist micronationalist who actually tried to bring revolution to other states. Daffyd, William, Koba, Myself, Fox either created or maintained communist themed nations but never attempted to start communist or socialist parties in a pre-established micro-state.

True. Fenix did his homework on micronational socialism, too. The good old days of Charlotta and the old Micras Commies are gone though. I kind of miss some of those nations- Novaya Zemlya was just a laugh and Tchistanski was quite interesting and well-done too.

As for Che, another irony is how these Che guevara T-Shirts of other assorted socialist revolutionaries are probably mass processed in a sweatshop in Indonesia or somewhere :rolleyes

I should at least mention the Rosario brothers, Mike and Hoss, in Olde Cyberia

On the comic-opera side, Gennaday Titov caused some trouble for a while.

I know of two Titov's - Gennady and Reptavian. Both proly not serious about the communist stuff.

A story from the early days of Roczentia / Rulczentia- Egad, its seven years old.......

Background - At the time I was a legitimate citizen of the VCC. A number of people were p.o.'ed at the gov't (as usual) and decided to go off to start their own thing (Rocentia). they started it in terms of a "non-official" (ahem) invasion from Cyberia.

Well, some of us mused, "How would the people invaded actually feel, if there were any, that is?"

Rocentian "Freedom fighters" duped!
From CPN - Refugees Return home
-------\

Today three ships of the so-called FREF returned to port in Southaven.

Hundreds of Cyberian volunteers who had gone to fight for "freedom" in Rocentia returned. Many kissed the ground when they got off the ships.

"You have no idea what it's like over there,"said one grizzled sailor. "We went to fight for freedom, but we were fooled."

"The only freedom that task force fought for was freedom for ------to become a king," interjected another sailor, an officer by his uniform.

"The Rocentian people were leading a decent life. Then some greedy Cyberian arms merchants saw a chance to start their own little world, free from the restraints of the Cyberian Constitution."

"It was horrible, Rocentians screaming in agony as our ships pounded their peaceful villages into rubble. My crew and I couldn't stand it. When Admiral ------- left the task force, we mutinied, rescued as many Rocentians as we could, and turned for home."

"We met a squandron of DSSI ships returning to Cyberia, and followed them in to port."

A captain of the DSSI shipping company said,"The last thing we expected was to have to use our particle anti-aircraft weapons against Cyberian pilots on our way home."

"At least they were TDI aircraft", laughed another company officer. "They ran like bunnies when we vaporized their drop tanks. Thank goodness we didn't have to hurt any of the pilots."

"Hurt them! I'll hurt them!" exclaimed a Rocentian officer. "They burned my village and killed my donkey! Wait until I get home!"

Jacobus Imperator was in Southaven to dedicate the new DSSI HQ building. His meeting with the non-violent Front for an Autonomous Lasteria was cut short by the drama of the returning FREF vessels.

"This is a matter for the Federal Government", Imperator was quoted as saying. "Of course, we will open the company coffers to help the victims find food and shelter during this holiday season."

I remember being extremely confused about the Rulczentia/Roczentia split. I wish they had just chosen a less similar name.

I remember creating Comrade Redstorm in an attempt to trigger a false flag "friendly-fire" incident that would have distracted Tymaria, the Free Republic and other assorted Tudeh, from their monomanical obsession with little old Babkha by drawing them into a confused new Hubert War on the Rulzcentia forums.

Well it confused and distracted Erik and Kuralyov for a bit. :p

I remember being extremely confused about the Rulczentia/Roczentia split. I wish they had just chosen a less similar name.
The original "Rocentia" were the guys doing the "invasion" to start the new country. (I believe I've got a copy the original scenario somewhere.) Originally it was going to be called Sementia, but they changed it.

Scott's surmise was right, Roczentia was started to annoy, if not an indivdual, a particular group. It was a continuation of earlier intra-Cyberian disputes. The choice of name was deliberate, attempting to show the "invaders" as white-bread types, and the poor suffering Roczentians as more Slavic.

The attempt was made to make them mild Yugoslavian Titoists than the evil Stalinist they were supposed to be.

There was a character named "(something) Hubert". Not THE Hubert.

Well, Gennady ran into THE Hubert, or rather the other way around, and Hubert proposed a merger. Since they were both pariahs, they came to terms, merging Roczentia and Rulak into Rulzcentia. Gennady hoped that this would end the war with Rocentia, but then the new country inherited Hubert's enemies.

Gennady still hangs out in the FRC on occasion. He's governor of Mala Province.

P.S.-
The revived Rocentia was an ally of the FRC, and that conflict is over. :angel

I remember... uh... ignoring them all completely... though I guess I was rather confused too, considering that I always thought that the only nations involved were Rocentia, Rulak and Rulzcentia, this was the first time I ever heard of Roczentia :/

The premise was that they (Rocentia and Roczentia) were the same, just spelled differently by "victim" and "oppressor".

It's a well-known fact that the only people who can get bitchy about the spelling of Barac(a with a tidle)o are the Barac(a with a tidle)oans themselves. And even then they don't do it to other Barac(a with a tidle)oans. :archy

Ardy, SO YOU were Comrade RedStorm! after all these years...

Kuralyov was the closest to Che I can think of for reasons stated above. Wish that guy was around, Babkha doesn't have a commie to run in the upcoming election.

I remember when I was foreign affairs for the Commonwealth of Norad that I was sent on a diplomatic mission to the Roc/Rulz countries. I was still relatively new to micronations and the concept confused the hell out of me. So instead I went to Lyrica because it seemed to be the the talk of the town because of the Spam Cannon fiasco. That was also the first time I ran into Babak, Fox and Diga and we know what happened then.

And the squiggle in the spelling of Baracao was a development of its own. I never bothered. At first, Daffyd had it placed in the header of the forum so that people could copy and paste it in. And after a while everyone was expected to have the proper keyboard setup to use it. By then I had been purged from Baracao and was off taking over Varja for the devious purposes of exacting revenge on Thomas "El Dorni" Hubert. Those were the days when you could request just about anything on the MCS map, so I asked Ryan to change Varjas colour to black and put a large pentagon representing a citadel. Hubert didn't really give a dam, but Zarathustra was extremely distraught by it. I always felt bad about that. Maybe my purge came as a result of that? I can't recall. Somewhere in there Audentor was resurrected for the 6th time as well. It's interesting, all anyone ever spoke about back then was "The Golden Age of Apollo". Machievellia, Automatic republic, FIoJ, and I think Hyperborea was in there at some point as well. Back when it was a separate nation.

Of course those were the days of The Fireball and later, The Skyline. "A More Elegant Weapon For A More Civilized Age".

Woah... this is getting real old school... I haven't read up on my Shirereithan history or much micronational history, to be honest. That famed work, Microscope, just confused my already addled Modan-Laqi brain when I tried to read it (no offence meant, Scott).
It seems the tetchy spelling mistake of our time is Matbaic versus Matbaaic. I was looking through the Zatriarchate's constitution the other day and I realised that Fenix had even spelt 'Matbaic' wrong there. Most dreadfully embarrassing :p
