Things that need to be done to the wiki, roughly in order of how many people I expect to be able to do the job without much trouble:
- delinebreakification and reparagraphication: Whatever was done to import the current data in the wiki, it left a lot of article sources linewrapped at 72 characters, and paragraphs broken. It'd take longer for me to write a bot (and the results would be less accurate) that'd go through the wiki and remove those extra linebreaks than it would take for some enterprising Shirithians to go around the list of all pages, clicking on "edit" on each and removing all the extra linebreaks while adding an extra linebreak where there is an extra paragraph break.
I'll use editing A_Treatise_on_Micronational_Existence_on_the_Internet_and_the_Resulting_Implications as an example of this. You might want to have a look at the article proper too, to see how this bug manifests. Now, just removing extraneous linebreaks is easy - just go to the end of each line, press del, and press space. Identifying paragraphs is a little bit more difficult, and you might sometimes have to actually analyse the text a bit to see where the paragraph ends. In most cases, however, the last line of a paragraph is a lot shorter in the edit box than the rest. For instance, "impossible to deduce what has lead to their Creation." is the shortest line since the beginning of the text, and it does indeed end the paragraph - place one empty line between it and the beginning of the next paragraph.
Note that in this case I replaced the article by just googling for the its content and finding it in the Grand Archive (bless that place for, well, existing!). No sense in doing any more work than you have to
- content reduction: If a page is not about Shirithian affairs, go to http://mnn.mncentre.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page and see if the same content exists over there. If not, copy it over (doing delinebreakification and such as necessary). If you don't have administrative privileges on the wiki, just replace the page's content with [[category: In_MicroWiki]]. If it's a lengthy page and there's a lot of cross-checking to do, you might also want to mark it by adding [[template: Moving_Out]] on top of it before you start working. Use the "what links here" link to clean up references to pages removed from ShireWiki this way. If you aren't sure a page should be included in ShireWiki or not... hm... technically making decisions on things like that should fall to the MiniInfo. I'll start a thread on that in the MiniInfo forum.
- for articles that are partially about Shireroth, try to rewrite them so that the parts that pertain to Shireroth are mentioned, and the rest can be found on MicroWiki (obviously, add a link to MicroWiki for those articles)
- cleanup of historical information: This shouldn't take a lot of research or knowledge. When you come across an article claiming, say, that a specific person currently holds a certain title in Shireroth and zie doesn't, update the article accordingly. If you want to do more than just that, Google and the forum search feature are your friends.
- adding information. You might want to post requests for information on specific subjects in this thread. For instance, I'd really appreciate it if Erik or someone else who remembers what the flag of Shireroth symbolises anyway went to http://www.shireroth.org/wiki/index.php ... al_symbols and added in that information.
- making it look more Shirithian: Currently we're using the default MonoBook style. Since it's going to be the wiki of Shireroth now, it'd be really nice if it looked Shirithian, too. Neike expressed interest in this job.. so, Neike, please report in: What resources do you need to be able to do this?
