The Imperialization of the armed forces of Shireroth; Take 1
Ministry of Military Affairs
Shirekeep, Shireroth
The First Ifniday of Mo'lluk.

The time for an active, revitalized military has arrived. To further this end, with full support from the Kaiser, I am hereby forming a new military, to superceed and super-impose itself over the army-militia hybrids of the subdivisions. This marks a return to the pre-existing system in place before-hand, a system that would make the old CinC Patrick Foley cry tears of joy! It will be grandfathered in over the next couple of months. I don't think of this so much as admiting the failure of the current way of doing things, as opposed to finding a better way to do it. I did believe that the dukes would create wonderfull systems in their own time, but as time passed, the only ones to do anything were the Steward of Elywnn, and the Duke of Elywnn.
Therefore, each duchy will now be given command of a single 'corps' in the three branches of the military (army, navy, and air force).
An army Corp is typically made up of 50,000 men. The section directly below that is called a division, and each division has 25,000 in it (this being the typical standard unit for SNARL), letting two divisions make up a corp.
An Air Force corp (called a Wing) is comprised of 50 aircraft (this can change, depending on the circumstances). Directly underneath a Wing is a Group. This is comprised of 25 aircraft (and is the standard air unit for SNARL).
A Naval corp (called a Fleet) consists of 10 capital ships and varied support vessels. Inside a Fleet are two units called groups. Each group is called by what the capital ships are made of (Carrier Group, Battleship Goup, Destroyed Group), and is made up of 5 capital ships (the standard sea unit for SNARL).
There are smaller units as well, that will be explained below at a later date, as well as a wonderfull new chain of command. Each new post will describe the different concepts that will hopefully breathe new life into this ministry. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated as well.

Ensign (navy), Second Lieutenant (army, air force)
Lowest ranked enlisted officer with officer training.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warrant Officer
Warrant Officers are specialists in a certain field (as opposed to commissioned officers, who are 'generalists') that have not attended an officer training acadamy and recieved a 'commission' from the Kaiser. Instead, they recieve a 'warrant' from the Minister of Military Affairs for specific positions. Warrant Officers have 5 ranges. From the lowest rank of one, to the highest rank of five.
Chief Warrant Officer (5)- Highest ranked.
Warrant Officer 4-
Warrant Officer 3-
Warrant Officer 2-
Warrant Officer 1- lowest ranked.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ENLISTED RANKS
Enlisted men are the rank-and-file members of the military, that fufill the grunt-work that needs to get done. There are 9 'grades' of enlisted officers, ranked E-1 to E-9, with E-9 being the highest rank. E1-E4 are usually just common soldiers with no leadership responsibilities.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E8 and E9 are the senior advisors for all enlisted matters to the commanders, and are required to have at least 15 years in their branch to advance to these ranks. There is a second E9 rank that is given to a single NCO officer to act as senior advisor to the minister regarding all enlisted matters in the military. It is still considered E9 due to the fact they are in the same pay grade area as the other E9s.
E9 (special)- Sergeant Major of the army, Master Chief Petty Officer of the navy, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force
E9- Sergeant Major (army), Master Chief Petty Officer (navy), Senior Master Sergeant (air force)
E8- Master Sergeant (army), Senior Chief Petty Officer (navy), Master Sergeant (air force)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From E5 up the term 'Non-commissioned Officer' is used (Or NCO for short). These are leadership roles given to soldiers who show their ability to lead competently. They are not given a 'commission' by the Kaiser.
E7- Sergeant First Class (army), Chief Petty Officer (navy), First Sergeant (air force)
E6- Staff Sergeant (army), Petty Officer First Class (navy), Technical Sergeant (air force)
E5- Sergeant (army), Petty Officer Second Class (navy), Staff Sergeant (air force)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E4- Corporal (army), Petty Officer Third Class (navy), Senior Airman (air force)
E3- Private First Class (army), Seaman First Class (navy), Airman First Class (air force)
E2- Private Second Class (army), Seaman Second Class (navy), Airman Second Class (air force)
E1- Private (army), Seaman (navy), Airman (air force)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PAY GRADES
Each enlisted grade and officer ranking is within a single bracket, and the next rank up is in another bracket that's higher. Within each bracket though, there are 3 grades; Low grade, mid grade, and high grade. These are given as incentives and punishments, but the highest grade of a rank directly below another is never highter than the lowest grade of that ranking.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BASIC TRAINING
The Ministry of Military Affairs is required to have at least one fully functional Basic Training camp for each Division (or fleet) currently active.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FORTS
The Ministry of Military Affairs is required to have at least one fort for each active division.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRAINING ACADEMIES
There are officially 3 types of acadamies.
1. Officer's academy- Attended when one is selected to become an officer.
2. Command Academy- Attended when one is selected to become a command officer.
3. SHINE Academy- SHINE Officers have their own ranking system that is seperate from normal military intelligence and normal military rankings. As such, they have their own Academies and training programs. For all intents and purposes, SHINE do not have to answer to the normal military chain of command, and are to be considered in a seperate (and hidden) fourth branch.

NOBILITY AND THE MILITARY
The Nobility of the nation have a birthright to command some parts of the military, which is afforded to them by their station in life.
1. Dukes may command a single corp in each branch, as defined and explained above. In times of war, the Duke is expected to commit his full force to whatever particular front or fronts we might be fighting on, and MUST obey the chain of command. In peacetime, he must follow the commands of the Minister zirself, but is free to do as he pleases. If he simply does not have time to command due to domestic issues (in peacetime or wartime), he may pass active command to a lt. general of his choosing. If a duke sees fit to create more than one corp, he must apply for an additional corp directly to the minister.
2. Lower nobility under the authority of a duke may command any lesser division of the military in the corp given to each duchy. This shall be defined and gifted to each noble as the Duke sees fit.
3. In the case that a county is independent of a duchy, they may hold a single battalion (2500 men) of their own that reports directly to an imperial army held by the kaiser (this includes all branches). As with the case of the Duchal corps, they may be operated independently of the chain of command except during times of war.
4. In the case that a barony is independent of a duchy, they may command a single division (25,000) of their own that reports directly to an imperial army held by the kaiser (this includes all branches). As with the case of the Duchal corps, they may be operated independently of the chain of command except during times of war.
5. The Kaiser is given the authority to command as many corps as the Imperial Republic of Shireroth is able to sustain in peacetime and wartime. The basic training camps and the forts to train and house them may be placed in any subdivision for any reason at any time at the command of the Kaiser or the Minister of Military Affairs, with adequite monetary compensation given to the land owner. The noble of said land is NOT given authority to block any imperial buisness relating to said military installation.
6. In times of rebellion, it is to be considered an act of war by the rebel noble(s) and all subdivisions are expected to commit forces to quell it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SHINE INTELL AND MILITARY INTELL
For the sake of keeping things neat and clean, SHINE intelligence is a seperate corp and is kept directly under the authority of the Minister and the Kaiser, and is considered seperate from any normal military intelligence operated by any branch of the military.
Rankings inside SHINE intelligence agency rank from the highest (a four star general) to the lowest (Warrant Officer) and do not employ enlisted men. Any officer showing sufficient mental capacity may apply to become part of SHINE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARMY UNIT HEIRARCHY
Army: 100,000+ soldiers. Two Corps (or more) make up an army, but an army is only formed during wartime at the consent of the Kaiser and/or the Landsraad. In times of war, a four star General is typically promoted to a five star general (General of the Army), and given general command of a particular war front, and is answerable only to the Kaiser or the Landsraad. At the end of a war, he is stripped of the fifth star, and returns to a regular four star status.
Corps: 50,000 soldiers. Two Divisions constitute a Corp, which is usually commanded by a lieutenant general.
Division: 25,000 soldiers. Two Brigade's make up one division and is usually commanded by a major general.
Brigade: 12,500 soldiers. Five Battalion make up one brigade, and is Normally commanded by a colonel with a command sergeant major as senior NCO
Battalion: 2500 soldiers. Four companies make up one battalion, and is normally commanded by a lieutenant colonel with a command sergeant major as principle NCO assistant
Company: 625 soldiers. Five platoons make up one Company, and is commanded by a captain with a first sergeant as the commander's principle NCO assistant. An artillery unit of equivalent size is called a
battery, and a comparable armored or air cavalry unit is called a troop.
Platoon: 125 Soldiers. Five squads make up one Platoon, and is led by a lieutenant with an NCO as second in command
Squad: 25 Soldiers. Typically commanded by a sergeant or staff sergeant, a squad is the smallest element in the Army structure.

AIR FORCE UNIT HEIRARCHY
Air Force Command, Shirekeep- Command headquaters for ALL Shirerithian air forces. Each Major Command reports to Shirekeep.
Major Command- Each particular Wing has seperate section for each of it's functions (firefighter section, supply section, fighter section, etc etc), so it makes sense that each of these sections has a major command that must give them their particular general rules and orders on how to do their jobs.
Numbered Air Force- Two or more wings (only in wartime) that are grouped together to fight a particular warfront.
Wing- 48 aircraft and support vehicles, made up of two groups.
Group- 24 aircraft and support vehicles, made up of two squadrons.
Squadron- 12 aircraft and support vehicles, made up of two flights.
Flight- 6 aircraft and support vehicles, this is the smallest grouping that fly missions in aircraft of any sort.
Section- Sections don't fly aircraft, but make up the rest of the work force, and consist of two or more men depending on their particular job (I.E. Firefighters, refueling, supply, etc etc).

SHINE is techincally under the MoMA, so I think it's only proper I should be able to decide SOME.
Of course, this is all on the recwar level, so the actual shine activities remain unscathed.

NAVAL UNIT HEIRARCHY
Fleet- 10 capital ships of any kind and smaller support craft, designated by nickname and type (Carrier Fleet, Battleship Fleet, etc.). A fleet is commanded by a Vice Admiral usually, but a tenured captain MAY command a fleet as well
Group- 5 capital ships of any kind and smaller support craft, designated by nickname and type. A Group is commanded by a Rear Admiral Upper Half, but a group MAY be commanded by a tenured captain as well.
Ship- A single capital ship of any kind and smaller support craft, designated by nickname and type. A single ship is commanded by a captain.
There, simple enough... theres alot of quirks i've left out of each command structure, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. This should be complete now.

Heh, the problem with not having the foggiest experiance with real life military is that when a real life military man comes around and see's what i've done, i've allways got a critic. We should talk privately sometime.
