China awarding own peace prize - confucius peace prize

Post by Gil'les Mel'ang »

Organizers of the Confucius Peace Prize will honor former Taiwanese vice president Lien Chan in Beijing on Thursday for his efforts at building peace between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The prize named after the philosopher is intended to give the Chinese "viewpoint of peace." The awards committee says Lien, the honorary chairman of Taiwan's Nationalist Party, was selected from eight nominees.

Any chance we'll get a definition of the "Chinese viewpoint of peace"?

If you conquer someone's lands and make them your own, and brutally smash all opposition to shreds, you'll bring peace! Yay!

Like the Americans did with the Indians...? :p

Honestly, I disagree with the Chinese view on politics, but it's not like the Nobleprice can be called very noble. A lot of (former) murderers have gotten the price in the past. And in a lot of cases it looks like political manipulation.
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

To be fair, Obama himself seemed shocked at that one.

It's not called the Nobleprice, it's called the Nobel Peace Prize, after the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. I count three people (Kissinger, Sadat and Arafat), as well as some Israelis that might be classified as (former) murderers, but I hardly call that many. Or maybe you mean Mother Teresa or the ICRC...

While on the topic of China, I saw an interesting article about how China has some "ghost" cities after the housing bubble.

They look quite nice from above.
