Following the course of others...
... I am constructing a language for Cape Farewell. I don'tknow the name of it yet. But Farewellian sounds silly. I might call it Caligaean after the biggest city in the area.
Anyway. Here's what I've got, I sample text:
Datt ar naatt aa Nesun Farvel, do endeiri. Endleysa naattin umgir mi. Ai har ikki seit auri nairu aa fleiru daium. Vhenn koumur soulin at gaanga med aa at arta yvra antunni? Ai! Som ai ar laanga aa soula! Um houn villi arta - um enn for nairu faau stundum... Men ikki! Rea naattin - d´ kuma ar her.
I am translating the story "It is night at Cape Farewell". So far I got here.
It is night at Cape Farewell, yet noon. The endless night surrounds me. I have seen no sun for days. When will the sun decide to rise over the horizon? How I long for the sun! If only it would decide to rise for just a few minutes... But no, the polar night, the endlessness is here
More about the language to follow...

"Caligaean is a dialect of the Hurmu language. Spoken in the northern reaches of Elwynn, in Cape Farewell, its vocabulary is varied, with large parts of it coming from Babkhi and Quenya."

As the words appear unintelligible to a non-initiate like myself without the translation provided, I would say your Imperial Niftiness is doing something right, and offer my congratulation on the success of your work thus far.

Re: Following the course of others...
People sometimes complain at me about how Finnish overuses the letter 'a'. Finally I have something even worse to point at .
Anyway, though, I like this a lot. Sounds Scandic enough to make me feel cold just reading it after a couple of hours thinking in English, is slightly grokable for the same reason, yet sounds... I dunno, full of as?
(edit: Ooh, just remembered: It's full of as... it's a-some!)

No-one should be without a parasol, Sirocco.
Re: Following the course of others...
A can actually read some of it without the translation. Looks like an Icelandic/Swedish/Norse-thingy. Very nice.

Yeah, it seemed very Scandinavian to me, and thanks to my recent interest in Swedish, I was able to follow some of it before looking at the translation.

Thanks!
It is built upon the Scandinavian languages, because that's a lot easier than doing a language from scratch :P
"aa" is pronounced differently from "a", so that explains the large amount of a's in the language.... hehe

Yup! I suppose we could write it as "å" as well...
