Figures, the one day I check the Landsraad before my own Duchy.

But no, I am afraid I will not change my vote. Your appeal is well spoken, and your fears are sound, but I have enough faith in the institutions of this government that I am willing to take the chance. I trust Andreas to be an excellent and committed Minister of Trade, who would not propose this system if he did not feel confident that he could regulate it fairly. I trust Kaiser Ayreon to have the courage to check any excess of the Landsraad under the new system. And I trust the Landsraad itself to reverse the new system if it causes wild swings of power or overcompetitiveness. Because I trust them, I think this is worth a try, as an experiment and a last attempt to resuscitate our hopes of a stable economy.

But I promise you this. If the new system screws up, I won't stubbornly stick to my guns. I'll be right there proposing or at least supporting a return to the old system.

Your Grace--So long as this new economic system is being given a real trial to see if it does what is purported, but that we can go back to the old system if there are too many glitches, I will support this as well. This is, after all, a simulated nation. Why not a simulated economy? I do hope it works also.

Dolor has issued its protest. Brookshire is even weaker now then it was before.

You could petition the nice guy currently sitting on the throne, there are ways to undo it....

no nevermind, the "I told you sos" will be more fun.

This thread is giving off too many bad vibes, so I will say something nice.

I will say that I have gained a great amount of respect for Duke Jonas of Kildare, even though I disagree with his position on this issue. Kildare has more erb than any other Duchy, so Duke Jonas stood to gain more than anyone else from this bill. However, he opposed the new system because he honestly thought it would be bad for the country.

I think Shireroth needs more people like this, who don't think in terms of "My Duchy would be one of the weaker ones, so I oppose this!" or "My Duchy would be one of the stronger ones, so I support this!" or "I'll sabotage the system and then gloat in your face when it fails!" but just "Is this good for Shireroth?"

Now that Baron Erik has promised to take his money out of Brookshire in protest, Brookshire will have a lot of trouble getting back on its feet. I have faith that we can do it, because I know the rest of us are willing to work extra hard and meet the new economic system on its own terms. But until we can do that, I am glad that Duke Jonas of Kildare will be wielding a lot more power in the Landsraad, because he's clearly the sort of person who deserves it.

My guess is that it's just that he's the guy who actually has to figure out whether bills pass :p
