The Age of Fire and Flight

Post by Sebastien Alexandre »

Ozarka stood atop the highest level of the earthen tower that was the government building. The soft breeze blowing through the wall-less level blew his long, dark black hair into his deep neon blue eyes. Around him were assembled the best five dragons, each, consequently a different color.

To his left was a small petite dragon; gold in color with glimmering white talons and deep blood red eyes. Two small horns stuck out on either side of its small ear holes, its long snout and yellowed teeth finishing the face - this dragon, though small, could breathe fire reaching over five hundred degrees. Yes, these dragons... this 'flight' of dragons, would be charged with dealing with foreign affairs... Ozarka could not afford to see Halluci in flames when dealing with what might have been so petty as a burglar.

Next to the Goldscale, as it was called, stood a large dragon, six feet in length from head to tail. Upon this dragon were no spikes, save for one large scorpion-like pierce on the tip of it's tail. It's long, four foot long tail doubled over its body. This dragon was not skilled in flight. It took the aid of two others just to bring it up to the Dragon's Keep. No, this flight of dragons would be commanded to guard positions, where short puffs of tiny flame and precise hits with the three inch long horn could end any trouble. To these he named the dragons Nailtails, the Guardians of the Keep.

To the center dragon was a small (chinese) dragon, of which its body was as a snake. This dragon alone could stand on all fours, and its body itself was like a tail. This emerald green dragon with the gold talons and white teeth accompanied by light green eyes had spikes nor flames at its command, but the very essence of nature itself. To it it could tame the will of the earth, ensnaring its enemies in a field of vines, thorns, and ivy; to it it could call the spirits of the animals, enticing the creature to do its bidding. This dragon could also command with it the moulding of the earth, creating walls. These dragons, by far the most cunning and powerful, not to mention wisened of the Five Flights, though few in numbers, would be charged with the protection of the Secrets of Halluci. It would guard the individual keeps of the remaining four flights, and guard its own as well. Yet to it, it also would be charged with the guarding of the Envision Stone. Carted from Hallucidagrad, Kildare, this stone was the essence of Halluci people. It would be hidden deep wi thin the mountain, and the Earthbender dragons (as they were known) would hide it, for it was theirs to protect.

Next to the far right sat the most awe inspiring of all the dragons - the Peacekeepers. These long dragons, resembling the Earthbenders, were as white as the whitest untainted snows of the tallest mountain peaks, with corresponding white talons, and white teeth. Infact, the only thing not white upon this creature were its eyes, whose glow was of a light blue. Yes, these were the emisaries, the only dragons capable of speaking with other humans - beyond that, they served no purpose. So to that, each Ambassador, Diplomat, and Foreign Negotiatior was bounded to one of these dragons for life, becoming a bond.

And the last of the great dragons were the Flamemakers, the oldest and most powerful of the dragon races of the Envisionists, these eight foot long creatures, with an additional three feet of tail, totaling an almost twelve foot long dragon, had one sole purpose - utter and complete destruction of its enemy at any cost. These massive beasts with their huge wingspans could easily glide close to the ground (thought not so close as to trip, or to fall into water and their consequent doom), destroying anything that stands in their path. Their long, four inch razor-sharp talons were solely for the annihilation of anything foolish enough to stand against them. Yet, alas, the Dragons had been for too many years forced to live too closely. These powerful, solitary beings, forced into confinement, had nearly annihilated each other, until now - now, under Ozarka's reign, perhaps they would finally prosper.

Yes, before him, were the emissaries of all five Flights of the Dragons.

All around him Earthbenders worked vigorously, moving mounds upon unspeakable mounds of earth, while Nailtails dug visciously into the huge stone slab that had been cut from the mountain and began carving it into the temple. Besides them, there were no dragons present, except for perhaps the few members of the Peacemakers, who were acting as scouts int he surrounding lands, making sure the Khan and his evil Babkhan forces were nowhere in sight. All around him the Halluci, envisioned and real alike; their numbers peaking at 300, worked on the secret temple, hidden in a grove on the mountain side of one of the most distant lands, and by far one of the most inaccesible areas of Illumination.

Ozarka snuggled the small bundle in his arms closer, his blue eyes peaking around nervously - he would not, and could not, afford for something to happen to the small stone that he held in a bundle - for its destruction would bring about the end of his reign, and the age of his people. Not only that, but now the Elves were dependant upon it's survival as well. Ozarka had pulled 4 willing Elves, those loyal to him and sympathetic to the cause at hand, and named them, the only, Guardians. Their name, guardians, was also their simple title - Guardian. To them were the most skilled of all of the Elfinshi in the land, who would personally tend to the Temple and protect it from any wary traveller - that is, if 'nature' didn't before hand destroy them, compliments of the 3 Earthbenders that would also become Guardians.

Above the sky, a Peacekeeper gave a cry. Ozarka took the stone from its spot, held it to his hand, and slowly but surely the surroundings became seen as merely an inhospitable mountain peak.

The plane passed overhead within the next five minutes, and once Ozarka was sure no more were to come, he sighed and the orb stopped glowing in his hand - the hallucination began to wear off the surrounding country sides.

He yelled for everyone to hurry. He couldn't keep this up much longer, not this.
