The Establishment of County Townships

Post by Elliot Markham »

In preparing a digitized transportation map for County Illumination, I realized that Shirerithian Counties are quite large. In particular, County Illumination's demographics and cultural attributes vary widely, from the Maritime North (North Illumination) to the Central Rural Lands (Central Illumination) to the Southern Suburban Corridor (South Illumination).

To facilitate further cultural development and political development, Decree of Count Andress I, three Townships were created in 1769 (Earth Years).

BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH TOWNSHIP

In North Illumination, Port Illumination, Illumination's capital, dominates the landscape. However, lining the the coast are a number of municipalities. The overall population density in this area is large. The amount of industrial activity is huge. The amount of shipping and receiving, in particular, via the maritime transportation industry, is a contributing factor. And the fishing industry of the Maritime North is well regarded.

Central Illumination is mostly farmland and wooded areas. The population density is very low. Most commerce in this area is centered not around a city in Illumination, but rather Glenfiddich, a large city in neighboring Frieden County. A four-lane highway and railway cross the area.

Southern Illumination was also once very rural, but with the growth of Eliria it has now become suburban. A six-lane freeway criss-crosses the area along with several other major highways and a rail line. Illumination's power generating plants are located in this area. Some parts of this area are rural and hilly (especially in the extreme southwest).

OTHER NOTES

Each townships has its own Council and Lord Mayor. Lord Mayors are appointed by the Count.

Each township also has its own garrison of the Illumination Division of the Shirithian National Guard. The Count's private armies also have forts throughout each township.
