Suggestions for improvement

Post by Malliki »

I just wanted to give everyone the opportunity to propose improvements to the court system, the Imperial Judex and the office of the Arbiter. I will listen to any suggestions and we'll see if we can make anything good with them.

The way I see it there are two options:

We convert the entire system so that it's one centralized system (so there's no other courts but the Judex Courts) OR

We keep the Judex but let Duchies have their own judicial systems and let the Judex be the "be all end all" of courts apart from the Kaiser.

2 is the way it is now. Or, at least the way it is formally.

I know. Problem is, the Judex is sort of useless barring a gigantic revolution (or other crime) which is too big for a Duchy to handle.

There's a lot of things in Shireroth that are "useless". And I beg to disagree. I may not handle a lot of court cases, but I also offer advice and guidance on legal and Charterial matters. Back when Erik was Arbiter, he did even more of that.

You may want to cast a glance at the charter Andrew. Like Mike said, the role of the Arbiter, ignoring how active or useful the actual Judex is, is one of the only people able to contest a Kaiser's decision.

The Judex is only so active as we do it. I am all for testing rec-lawsuits, if both parties are in on it from the beginning and accept the ordeal set by the Judex. That could be fun actually, and give the Mango Bar members something to do, as well as me. :)

I have a suggestion: moooar!!
Vilhelm von Benkern - The Dolphin-...Count
:: Formerly just "benkern"
:: Rook Sentry of the Order of the Vorpal Blade
:: Count of Mar Sara IIRC
:: Former Baron of Absentia AFAIK, before that Baron of Vorpmadal TBH; also Former Duke of Yardistan IMHO
:: Dux Emeritus of the Order of Mischievous Intent

It takes moo to mango!

Don't get tetchy with me, Leo, I am fully aware of what the Charter says. That is why I spoke of the Judex, and not the Arbiter.

I'm with you on the rec-trials, Mike!

Jake, the Kaiser holds supreme judicial power and is legally untouchable by the Judexx. So that is not a problem. :)

Depends on what law it is. But Quxark, so you know, we don't have that sill silly little thi thin thing here called freedom of spe spee speech.

Hey, break some laws then Quxark, and we'll see what happens. Could be fun for the rest of us. For you, not so much. Or, it could. Or not. Depends on what you like. Or don't. Or not.

I DARE YA! Bring it on!

I believe you have taken my words out of context. You can speak freely, of course. You are also free to be arrested and thrown in the scorpion pit. :moose

Free speech is a pillar of Shirithian life. If the Judex, or whoever, gets too carried away, we have a big civil war, throw out a bunch of stuff, and go down another path.

Move to Yardistan, Quxark, and get an extra level of protection for Free Speech.

You have Speech in Shireroth, not Free Speech.

Yay! May this be forever! :yay:
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki
