Concerns about current lawsuit

Post by Harvey Steffke »

Since the Judex seems like the type to get uppity about people trying to talk in his little court threads, I'll save us some minor arguing and just post this as a new topic.

This statement disturbs me greatly. Every legal system I am aware of, the goal is to come to a settlement between the parties, not prosecute people. A court case is a last step in trying to find a solution between the parties after all other attempts at negotiations have failed. This is especially true in civil matters such as this one. The defendant, upon first hearing of this matter, asks the other side if they are sure that they have not made a mistake, and the judge replies by telling him to shut up and enter a plea. What?

Corey hasn't even said he is unwilling to simply pay the 2 :erb and have the matter settled. He's too busy being rushed off for court day to talk to the other party!

I know you're all so ready and willing to prove how fast the courts can go and how well all your procedures work and all that, but I feel that an important step is being skipped out of haste.

That thread is not a discussion forum. There is a little thing called PM or another thread. As for the other stuff you said, make a proposal here or in the Landsraad Front Gate when you see something you disagree with.

Would you care to actually address the concern I made?

There is going to be a pre-trial hearing.

I kinda think Harvey may have a point. Perhaps we need to have the Arbiter see the position more in terms of arbitration then as judgment.

Let's see what the results of the pre-trial hearing are. I see your point, and I am trying to stick to the Procedures now. The pre-trial hearing could have several outcomes.

I think we need to distinguish between criminal and civil trials.

You do have a point. The glitches apparent in the system will be handled after the lawsuit is over.

Excellent point, your Niftiness, one I was pondering. The current lawsuit definitely falls into civil. Looks like the Mango Bar has its work cut out... :document
