Draft of the Treaty of Musica

In mutual friendship and in concern for the well-being of Shireroth and the flourishing of its many lands, the Duchies of Brookshire and Yardistan declare the following, taking effect either upon 22 Biternionsmoon or upon approval by the Landsraad, whichever is later:

The Duchy of Brookshire agrees to lease the city of Nee, the surrounding countryside, and three nearby small islands to the Duchy of Yardistan for 150 ASC years. For the period of the lease, Yardistan will control its internal affairs, and its inhabitants will acquire Yardistani citizenship.

The Duchy of Yardistan agrees to lease the County of Musica to Brookshire for 150 ASC years. For the period of the lease, Brookshire will control its internal affairs, and its inhabitants will acquire Brookshirean citizenship.

At any time after 150 ASC years are over, either party may choose to cancel this treaty. If neither party chooses to do so, this treaty will ry. If the treaty is cancelled, the residents of the affected territories will become citizens of the Duchy to which their lands revert unless they formally choose to change their place of residence.

The Dukes of Brookshire and Yardistan swear to treat all citizens in the affected areas fairly and humanely, and with the respect due to any other area of their territory.

Should any dispute or unexpected complication arise, the Duchy of Brookshire and Duchy of Yardistan agree to put the matter before the Imperial Judex, and to be bound by its decisions.

Signed: YVAIN WINTERSONG, DUKE OF BROOKSHIRE
Signed: (Duke of Yardistan)
Signed: (Baron of the Holy Lands)
Signed: (Count of Musica)

What do you think?

I beg your pardon, Your Grace. Did you really intend to lease Musica to Brookshire but keep Yardistan in control? I think you may of misspoken here.

Therefore I agree and sign this treaty.

And we're done here gentlemen.

Mike and Bill! Sad to see you go! :( You'll still be posting in and around Shireroth I guess, but I always find myself being closest to the Shirerithians I'm living with Duchy-wise. Even so, in the short time you guys have been here, I think there has been a good establishment of preliminary Yardistanism that can never be erased. :thumbsup So go forth, Morovian invaders, and enjoy Brookshire!

Ouch! You're right! This is what happens when I use copy-paste to write treaties!

I've edited away the error, but I will wait a day or two before proposing it to the Landsraad to make sure none of the Yardistanis have second thoughts about the corrected form of the treaty.

The Kaiser is a fink! :)

Did I say that?

Wow, whatever did Death Reaper serve me in that pub?

Thank you all, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Fors and Bekkenhuis satellite office open here in the future.

Bill

PS - Bonus points to whatever American can remember from what comic I bastardized, "The Kaiser is a fink!" (I don't think it was published overseas.)

Ah, I suspected you'd catch it :)

And, per Wikipedia, The Wizard of Id has been translated into Finnish!

Badly, I might add. Or, well, maybe my sense of humour just does not agree with it, the language never was that bad, it's just that I don't think the comic *ever* managed to tickle a laugh out of me. No, when it comes to old comics, Blondie was always my favourite :).

I was never a big fan of old comic strips... the only ones I really like are Foxtrot and Non-Sequiter, though I don't know how many people actually know what those are... >.>

I like those as well, but I think the Wizard of Id definitely appeals to a select portion of the reading public. It was not everyone's cup of tea.

My sister never understood Dilbert. She is the pointy-haired boss, so she is clueless about its humor. I always found that hysterically funny.

I don't really have much to say about Nemi, other than that it's awesome :). One of the best print comics in existence.

Uhh... it's not *so* awesome that you should be disturbed about it, thank you :p. Note "print comics" - it doesn't hold a candle to Order of the Stick ;). (which is also a print comic, I guess... but to me, it'll always be a wo matter what!)

The only print comics that have ever amused me are Dilbert and Calvin&Hobbes. The vast majority are so bad that it's impossible for me to conceive of anyone even theoretically finding them funny. I feel like I or anyone I know could make something funnier within two or three minutes.

The good webcomics are xkcd, Goats, OOTS, Something Positive, Dresden Codak, and a few others I can't think of right now.
