(yay!!) There are no flowers, no not this time. There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find.

Something rises on the horizon

Post by Rarkasha »

He stood in the middle of a dim, blank, entry room to the series of labs. The man was clothed in simple black pants and shirt, his regular research attire. Rarkasha always said it reminded him of a friend, what with all the black hair and clothing. But that was a story of another time and place. He also said it was better functioning for his magic. He walked over to a man similarly clad in a black coat. Rarkasha believed it was much easier to spot dust on black clothing rather than white."Is there a problem with the inscribing process?" Rarkasha said softly"No, sir. We've made a breakthrough in the research in the third lab. We wanted you to see yourself," said the researcher, averting his eyes respectfully. He'd been told, as had countless others, not to do that. But apparently, it was a custom. And Rarkasha, unassuming of most, somehow engendered respect from his people."Very good," said Rarkasha, his tone complementing, but still soft," I wish to see it. That is the propulsion method testing room, correct?""Indeed, sir. This way," said the scientist, turning and walking out the entry room. They walked down a corridor into another simple, blank room. Except this one had a large cylindrical object on it's side, with a pole that had a flag attached to it nearby. Other men in the lab attire were working on the machine, with a simple lever device attached by wire near it."It's very simple in shape, just as you said, sir,' spoke the scientist, growing more excited with each word," but it took us awhile to set of a system of conduits. Eventually, we managed to take the smallest lodestones we could find and used them around the front and back ends, along with conduits running along nearly all parts. It will get more streamlined with progress, of course.""Good, good," said Rarkasha mildly," Is it up to operational parameters?""Err... not yet, sir. But we will stabalize it as soon as we can," apologized the head scientist, the one who had brought him here. Rarkasha remembered to get a good look at this man, taking him in, to remember him. The man paled, thinking that Rarkasha was probing him with those bright eyes of his. They were dark, yet seemed to glint with intensity, especially at times like these. Rarkasha nodded, showing his approval."I am sure the results will be satisfactory. Has the testing shown anything useful?"The head scientist lit up. He walked over to the lever, shooing away the other workers. He turned back to Rarkasha for a second to say, "We have it operating at very low power for now, but there is a throttle mechanism."Rarkasha watched as the man pulled the level, and a quiet humming sound began. A very slight hissing sound of air moving along the metal surface permeated the silence as well. Rarkasha could see it in his mind's eye: the air traveling through the wide chamber, getting closer and closer until the walls and the gravity forced it out. The yellow flag on the pole wavered in the air, defient of the laws of nature. Rarkasha nodded in agreement. Another step towards building a real airship. --- The first step is admitting I have a problem.
