Baronial Decree: Death Sentences

The Statute of ReservationsIt is the Baronial Will that theses laws shall bind those who are consigned to the Reservations for the transgression of the Baron’s Laws. Once within those Reservations this statute shall prescribe the offences for which the wretched may be put to death and the manner in which it shall be done.1)        Those who wish it may come out of the Magistracy and the Forest of Elwynn to commit whatever acts of murder, rape, arson, and sack, as appeals to their imagination in the Reservation without fear of reprisal they need only come to the feasting hall and tell the Baron of their achievements in order to be rewarded if their crimes are of sufficient merit. 2)        When a man murders another in a quarrel, he shall be tortured to death. 3)        When a man hurts another with a weapon, he shall pay the highest immurement; when he does so under intoxication, his hand shall be cut off; and when he causes instantaneous death, he shall be put to death. 4)        When a person causes abortion in pregnancy by striking, or medicine, or by annoyance, the highest, middlemost, and first immurements shall be imposed retrospectively. 5)        Those who cause violent death either to men or women, or those who are in the habit of often going to meet prostitutes, those who inflict unjust punishment upon others, those who spread false or contemptuous rumours, who assault or obstruct travellers on their way, who commit house-breaking, or who steal or cause hurt to Baronial elephants, horses, or carriages shall be hanged. Whoever burns or carries away the corpses of the above offenders shall meet with similar punishment.6)        When a person supplies murderers or thieves with food, dress, any requisites, fire, information, any plan, or assistance in any way, he shall be punished with the highest immurement. Sons or wives of murderers or thieves shall, if they are found not in concert, be acquitted; but they shall be seized if found to have been in concert. 7)        Any person from the Reservations who escapes into the Forest, who forces entrance into the Baron's harem, who instigates wild tribes or enemies against the Baron, or who creates disaffection in forts, country parts, or in the army, shall be burnt alive from head to foot.8 )         Any person who murders his father, mother, son, brother, teacher, or a knight shall be put to death by burning both his head and skin; if he insults any of the above persons, his tongue shall be cut off; if he bites any limb of these persons, he shall be deprived of the corresponding limb. 9)        When a man wantonly murders another, or steals a herd of cattle, he shall be beheaded.10)        When a person breaks the dam of a tank full of water, he shall be drowned in the very tank. 11)        Any man who poisons another and any woman who murders a man shall be drowned. Any woman who murders her husband, preceptor, or offspring, sets fire to another's property, poisons a man, or cuts off any of the bodily joints of another shall be torn apart by bulls, no matter whether or not she is big with child, or has not passed a month after giving birth to a child. 12)        Any person who insults the Baron, betrays the Baron's council, makes evil attempts against the Baron, or seeks the sanctuary in the places of worship shall have his tongue cut off and his eyes gorged from their sockets. When a man other than a soldier steals weapons or armour, arrows shall shoot him down; if he is a soldier, he shall pay the highest immurement. He who castrates a man shall have his generative organ cut off. He who hurts the tongue or nose of another shall have his fingers cut off. 12) Any person who insults the Baron, betrays the Baron's council, makes evil attempts against the Baron, or seeks the sanctuary in the places of worship shall have his tongue cut off and his eyes gorged from their sockets.

Civility just means politeness, and to say burning people alive is impolite is somewhat an understatement.I think David means civilised behaviour. Currently I cannot think of a one word adjective for that, maybe the good Duke could help us.
