Petition for a Barony

Post by Iskander Mirkdale »

As the Duchy has none right now, HIM and I thought it might a good idea to have one formed from our respective Counties (CF and EU), incorporating Illumination to keep things tidily contiguous, and called Florae. Would you be amenable to such a thing, your Grace?

Here is what I am thinking (I apologize for the horrible map, but I've had a really busy day and wasn't up to making a better one):

Image

Four Baronies. Eliria (dark blue in the south), Iserdia (bright blue, northwest), [some Viking name] (medium blue, east), and Kai-Raikoth (Hyperborea+Cimmeria+Hyfrost).

I will lead Kai-Raikoth and Harald will lead the one around Wintergleam. I want to give the other two to Ric and Iain, but Iain is count of Eliria and I associate that territory more with Ric. I would like to wait until Ric gets back and have him and Iain come to an agreement over it, unless Iain just wants to pack up and move to Iserdia, in which case he's got it.

Everyone's welcome to change their Barony name. Harald, think up an appropriate name for your Barony. If it's relatively short and pronounceable by normal humans, I would really appreciate it.

I also rearranged some counties on that map, mostly to do away with the Zjandaria issue. Tell me what you think. This is all open for input.

Scott,

The name of my Barony will be: Nordland.

BTW does the County between Illumination and Wintergleam have a name?

It used to be one of the three Zjandarias. I gave it a Hyperborean name in my de-Zjandarianization (I think "Raeyomen"); you can either use it or replace it with something else as you prefer.

Explain the name of your website, Scott? ;)

Iskander Mirkdale, eh? Rings a bell... Troy Thompson? Iain De Vembria?

Some ideas on names for counties that don't currently have one:

Southern Lesser Zjandaria, being the one I most immediately think of as Ardashirian, and being the farthest away from Hyperborea, might be a good place for at least keeping a vaguely Babkish name around. I support renaming Ardashirshahr (I want it out because people refuse to spell it correctly :p) but the county around it could be named... hm... Arsalanistan (in honour of Ric)? Alalehzamin (in honour of Jadie, and no, I don't know what "zamin" means, I'm just looking at names on Eura here)? Rakeshtan or Rakestan (in honour of Rakesh86)?

That little county clipped from the south part of Iseirdia-la-Vraulalennir: Frieden, in honour of Nathan. (there's a city named Frieden Mine in Natopia)

The coastal county with Civitas Nova and Caligae in it: Araxion. It's bound to be either Araxion or Nesfarvel anyway, and... I'd prefer Araxion, really :).

Eastern Lesser Zjandaria (Alumikoth in the Hyperborean crusade): What I'd actually really like to see is this place getting folded into Illumination... that county's shape is just slightly too crazy for me, but putting this in would normalise it a lot. If that can't be done, well, with its proximity to Illumination, I'd be quite partial to Agnesia (after Hypatia Agnesi). (or Agnosia? Nah, that seems like a name for a part of Absentia :p)

Yup. It's the farsi equivalent of "stan". In fact I'm guessing the words are directly related somehow, second cousins or something.
Vilhelm von Benkern - The Dolphin-...Count
:: Formerly just "benkern"
:: Rook Sentry of the Order of the Vorpal Blade
:: Count of Mar Sara IIRC
:: Former Baron of Absentia AFAIK, before that Baron of Vorpmadal TBH; also Former Duke of Yardistan IMHO
:: Dux Emeritus of the Order of Mischievous Intent

It takes moo to mango!

It's Iain De Vembria.
!!!

The number three "Wanted" page in Shirewiki is for "Iain De Vembria".

It's a wanted article in MicroWiki as well.

I never felt well informed enough to write it...... :)

Ah. I just thought Turkish because of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, all populated by Turkish peoples. Wikipedia says that "-stan" is related to "stad" in Swedish and "stead" in English, for example. :document Nice! :yay:
