Voting rights

Post by Daniel Farewell »

The second amendment to the Fundamental Law reads:
Those Hurmudan-ka of responsible age, and who have dwelt in Hurmu for at least 30 days, form the Diet of Hurmu.
I think we should amend that. One month is a very long time, and the next election for Valdaship will be held before those who have recently signed the census will be able to vote. As such, we should amend it.

What do you think?

Cut it to 15 days, perhaps? Or an even 2 weeks?

In the Stormark era, the Diet was paralysed because the Diet of Hurmu and the government of Stormark were the same people. You can hardly expect an open mind in such circumstances. I don't know who's who in Shireroth. If at all possible such conflict of interest should be avoided.
Maybe some members could be ineligible to vote?

The government of Shireroth is very different from the government of Stormark.

Not really. One monarch, then a secondary legislative body. Stormark's system might be a little more complicated, but the two are the same in essence.

I don't claim to be an expert in Stormarkian law, but just the fact that there is a separate and independent judiciary is a big difference.

independent judiciary
This has nothing to do with the problem. When Hurmu claims to be a peculiar civilisation, living by the Brida, then you expect other people than the ruling aristocracy of a third nation to be the representatives of the people.

Hurmu would have been forgotten without the effort of One Who Has Too Many Names and the support of an active community but now is the time to be careful with independence.

I don't know who is who in this nation and I don't intend to get involved in Shireroth but I'm prepared to stand up for Hurmu and The Lakes.
