Principles of the Hhinto Religion

Post by W.Payne »

[quote]Hhinto is the native religion of Hawshire-Dura. It developed as a formal religion while Hawshire was still an independent micronation.

Hhinto Deities
Hhinto has 5 main deities who rule over the five main categories of the universe.

Diva : Diva (DEE-vah) is the goddess of love and relationships. She has power over such things as marraige, friendships, and family relations. She is the wife of Morde and the mother of Morgan.

Morde : Morde (MORE-day) is the god of death and the afterlife. He is generally viewed as being benevolent, and most Hintoists view death as a new beggining. He is the husband of Diva, father of Morgan, and the brother of Miurta.

Miurta : Miurta ( MEE-uhr-tah) is the goddess of fate. She decides such things as wealth, life span, health, and the rest of the things in a persons life. She is the sister of Morde and the wife of Audi. Miurta does not generally get along with her brother and sister-in-law.

Audi : Audi (AWE-dee) is the god of time. He makes sure time runs smoothly and has no glitches. He has the power, however, to freeze time, slow it down, or speed it up. He is the husband of Miurta.

Morgan : The youngest deity in the group, Morgan (MORE-gan) is the goddess of magic. Before she met her husband, Hako Nhakha, the sun spirit, she had numerous affairs with mortals. The children she had by these mortals inherited her ability to cast spells and do magic. They are the mages of Dura. She is the daughter of Diva and Morde.

Reincarnation
One of Hhinto's main beliefs is Reincarnation. Hhintoists believe people can be reincarnated into anything thing (animal, plant, person, or inanimate objects) and that if you are good during that lifetime you go higher on the scale of evolution next time. If a person is extremely pious, then the gods may see him and decide to grant him status as a minor god. It is impossible, however, to become one of the major deities. It is also extremely rare for one to be good enough to be reincarnated as a minor god.

Varna
Varna is a system of Karma used by the Hhintoists. It is a system of reward and punishment for your deeds in life. If you do a good deed, then good comes back to you 10 times as strong. Exactly the same for a bad deed. The reason for 10 times? 10 is the luckiest number in Hhinto.

Magic
Every Hhintoist believes in magic. To be able to perform magic means you are a descendant of Morgan. Morgan has had many children with humans and nature spirits alike, and all have possessed powerful magical potential.

An important element in Duran magic is alignment. If one mainly uses their powers to help others, then they have an alignment to light. If one uses magic for personal gain and advancement, they will be neutral. And if one uses their powers to bring harm and hurt to others then they have an alignment to the dark. Dark alignments are uncommon, because many would want to avoid the fate of becoming a Vampyr.

Vampyrs
Vampyrs are dark mages who have died. When the dark mage passes on, the last of his magic catches zem in between life and death. Since the dark mage is neither alive nor dead, they take on a ghost-like form, wherein they are semi-transparent and can pass through physical objects. It takes a great amount of willpower and energy for a vampyr to assume a solid, physical form unless they partake in imbibing blood. This gives them enough energy to sustain a physical form. When the dark mage first dies and becomes a vampyr, they will maintain their solidity for about 24 hours, to give them a chance to feed. A vampyr must feed at least once every week, or they will fade away and once again assume the ghost-like form. This does not kill them, however, because if they try hard enough they can assume a physical form long enough to feed again. When a vampyr is in a solid form, they can still go into their ghost-like form at will and return to their solid form if they still have enough energy. Vampyrs have several strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
  • *virtual immortality
    *invisibility
    *ability to pass through objects
    *power to control dead spirits
Weaknesses:
  • *cannot go outside on holy days
*tans quickly (from pale to golden in 15 minutes:makes it easier to identify them)
*if they stay outside for more than 30 minutes, they will lose their strength and energy and return to their ghostly form.
*cannot use the magic they formerly had access to as a mage
*their powers dissolve away when they get on or near holy ground
*vampyrs do not have access to their power to control dead spirits when they, themselves, are in spirit form
Spirits
Spirits are the the minor gods and goddesses. They do not serve a purpose in the world, as in they do not work together to make things run properly. They have power over the things listed beside their names.

Hako Nhakha - the Sun spirit
Deanha - the Moon spirit
Handrehel - spirit of trade and wealth

Sounds much better! A spirit who's named Jeremy is somewhat... weird. :D

I've made some tweaks to the religion because I felt that it was overly complicated, and there were a few inconsistencies. Everything is much better now. :)
