PSL Week 2 - Preview, Matches & Results

Post by Tarekseev »

Saturday 18th September

Vankarha Phyyta Raikoth v JHI LK

After the midweek international match against Tellia, the Shirerithians return home for the second of the game of the season, with the mid-day kick off taking off at Raikoth as VP Raikoth take on JHI LK. During the national callups, Raikoth only had Dearg McCann called up to the squad, whilst JHI LK had 3 of their first team players called up to the squad.

Despite playing the midweek international game against the Tellians, JHI LK captain Rranr Kikksta will not be rested as the side look to continue from their 5-4 victory to attempt to make it 2 in 2 in terms of match victories. The same applies to Mickey Graves, as the JHI LK team look to play a full strength squad.

Raikoth will be looking to get off the winning mark after holding Cerce at bay with a 1-1 draw in the opening match. From the looks of the opening match for the side, it appears that the men in blue will be looking to depend on Sdeli Korotion to bag some goals; with the front man being the first goalscorer for the team of the season.

On the other hand JHI LK will look to another Sdeli, but instead of Korotion they will look to Sdeli Liurion to deliver the goods. The Shirerithian was left out of the squad in mid week and will look to be impressing in the next few games to regain a call up. In terms of freshness, Raikoth look the fresher side but despite the freshness of the squads, JHI LK may seem to be the more match fit team, with several of their players going on international duty on Wednesday.

Although playing at home, JHI LK will look to be the certain favourites with this match. However should they keep to the shape and style of the previous match, then Raikoth do have a chance should they contest the defence of the team.

Mortis Mercatoria v Imperial United

Current leaders Mortis Mercatoria will return home to host Imperial United, a side which struggled defensively in the opening match.

Both teams look set to play full strength squads regardless of midweek international callups as this may become a match that many people would like to watch. Imperial United are expected to make one change, with striker Alexei Emir dropping to the bench although his replacement is yet to be known. Surprisingly, the defence remains unchanged in addition to goalkeeper Edson, who had a opening match, conceding 5 goals as the Robins are currently ranked 7th of the 8 PSL teams.

MMFC on the other hand will look to play a strong squad, with the use of all their international players. In contrasts to Edson's unsuccess, Frederico Smith managed to prove his worth by keeping Tellia at bay for the majority of the match in midweek and he will look to continue his fine shotstopping form to the domestic league in a possibly important match.

The Ghost's are still yet to see the potential of Billy McVeigh and François Germaine to the full potential, although Germaine will have his work cut out with opposing midfielder Zig Cee looking to make his life hell on the pitch. Gary Smith will provide the threat up front as MMFC look to play more attacking in front of their home fans.

This match will certainly be closely watched, and although MMFC have home advantage and may look stronger on paper, we shouldn't rule the Robins off just yet as they may be able to spring a surprise with their squad.

Vankarha Phyyta Raikoth 0-2 JHI LK

JHI-LK struck twice as they make it two wins from two games to assure their 100% winning record in the season continues.

Raikoth dominated in the early stages of the game, with the home side hitting the cross bar twice from Sdeli Korotion and Dearg McCann. Despite their chances, a resilient Llwrran Sattsa managed to deny the home team, after saving shot after shot after shot as the away side were being bombarded by shots in the opening minutes of the game.

However the travelling side managed to get into the game later on. At the 53rd minute, Sdeli Liurion was gifted a chance by Liuri Vermidion, who completely miskicked a clearance, allowing Liurion to seize possession before cutting in to let a curler swing in towards the goal. Slightly more spin and less power may have resulted in a different result, however JHI-LK managed to get their deserved goal after Talsin Yrrazan managed to poke a driven Rranr Kikksta cross into the back of net, beating Raikoth's shot stopper Zaki Uelusion as he tried to dive out to catch the ball.

A mistake by Dearg McCann led to double trouble as he lost the ball in the centre of the pack before bringing Donald Franken out from 25 yards out whilst trying to make amends for the mistake. Liurion stepped up to take the shot. However a clever last minute switch to Donald Franken allowed a square ball for Zack Scott to fire home a second, being helped with a slight deflection by the Raikoth wall at the free kick.

The final score ended 2-0 JHI LK as they go top of the table, with the MMFC game to played later on in the evening.

Mortis Mercatoria 1-1 Imperial United

A late goal by substitute Alexei Emir denied Mortis Mercatoria from top spot, saving 9 man Imperial United from 0 points in the opening two games of the PSL.

After going into the second week as top Mortis Mercatoria fans were buzzing as they expected the Ghosts to continue the run on with a second win. However in the opening 45 minutes, not alot happened with both sets of fans were unimpressed by the performances of their sides.

François Germaine was cautioned after arguing with the referee, claiming that defender Carlao brought him down on the edge of the area, whilst Zig Cee came close after fighting through the field before slicing his shot into the side netting.

Imperial United had a chance in the second half to go up with 17 year old Eddie Davison breaking past the defence, using his pace albeit with a poor shot ending the move with a clean catch for Frederico. Davison who started the match was promoted after Alexei Emir's poor performance in the opening match against JHI LK.

Despite Imperial United creating the majority of the opportunities to go ahead, it was the Ghosts who went up ahead. A rash tackle in the box by Michael Madison resulted in a red card and a penalty for the Ghosts. Gary Smith stepped up to take the spot kick as he went left in a fairly poor penalty. Despite the poor conversion of the penalty, goalkeeper Edson Moreira could only parry it away as Smith carried the penalty run through to tap in the rebound, leaving Edson stretched on the ground with no reason to recover.

Imperial United were hit with another blow after Joey Abrour picked up two yellow cards, resulting in another dismissal, bringing the Robins down to a team of 9 men. With Davison out of steam, manager Jean-Alexandre Martin decided to bring on Alexei Emir, who managed to somehow salvage a point for the away side.

With MMFC all over the Robins for the majority of the match, a long ball clearance from Carlao managed to be met by Talsin Llwrran who remarkably took on 3 players before guiding the ball to the roaming Alexei Emir, who ran into the box before sliding home a goal to make amends for his poor performance last week. Against all the odds, Imperial United managed to take the game to 1-1 and managed to save them from a second successive lost as they claim the first point of the season.

This leaves JHI LK in pole position at first, with MMFC having to settle for 2nd following today's results. With 2 more games tomorrow and with the Swifts involved, this could all change by tomorrow night.

Syrelwynn Swifts 3-0 Farvælska

Farvaelska travelled to Syrelwynn hoping to kick start their season; however the end result contrasted their mission as a late brace by Jalal Akwá secured a victory for the Swifts, who join JHI-LK at the top of the table.

Both teams started cancelling each other out in the first half with most of the game being played in the centre of the pack, with both sides looking to pounce on mistakes by their opposition. A miss-pass from Sébastien Focán almost costed the Swifts as Farvaelska came close to a goal as Håkon hin Ældri stole the ball before guiding it to Rikårð Daviðsson, who thought he'd scored a goal after slotting it past Marcel Yola, only to be denied by the referees assistant.

However Farvaelska were dealt with another blow in the match after a clumsy challenge by Amir Arminzadeh resulted in a free kick after he hacked down Laurent Zandine from a promising permission. Once again, skipper Sébastien Focán took the set piece to perfection from the edge of the box, crossing it inwards to meet the head of Ronny Vermidion. The Shirerithian international made no mistake and put the ball in the net past the goalkeeper with a powerful header to prove his worth to the national team.

Farvaelska tried to hit back with promising wing play by hin Ældri and Ulv Harfångst however another chance came begging after a drag back from Harfångst played Peyman Eslamzadeh from 23 yard out, scuffing the shot to allow Marcel Yola an easy save in front of goal.

And the visitors were soon to be punished for their lack of conversion. With 10 minutes to go, Jalal Akwá doubled the Swifts lead after collecting a loose ball from the right wing before dribbling down the flank before a one-two pass exchange with his skipper to allow him to send goalkeeper Folki Öldrikkari as the ball was placed into the bottom corner of the net.

And it wasn't over yet as a determined Sébastien Focán won a corner after a determined drive through the centre of the pack allowed space to open for a shot; however Öldrikkari managed to pull an acrobatic save to deny Focán his third goal of the season. The ball out for an injury time corner, and it was no surprise to see Focán to step up to take it. The corner was delivered into the net, however a poor clearance by Harfångst allowed Akwá to half volley the ball in from 8 yards as the Farvaelska defence scrambled in the area in a last ditch to attempt to prevent the goal from happening. 3-0 and game over. Swifts now have asserted themselves as the team to beat whilst the opposing team will need to head back home to Calagae and recompose themselves as they look to be needing a early season recovery with only 2 games in.
