PSL Week 1 - Sunday Preview

Post by Tarekseev »

With the first two games played, we now move on to see what happens with the other four teams in the tournament. With Raikoth holding Cerce to a 1-1 draw and the Swifts coming back to shun the Apollo with a 3-2 win, we now see the likes of Mortis Mercatoria, Farvaelska, Imperial United and JHI-LK take the field.

Farvaelska v Mortis Mercatoria

Farvaelska will face a uphill battle to face a tough Mortis Mercatoria who have undoubtedly won the crown of the most active team in the transfer window. However, today will prove whether the addition and the changes to the squad are any good and Farvaelska may be trying to pick out the weak links in MMFC's communication.

Farvaelska look to play with some intent to attack, with an expected long ball play to bring the likes of Yngvi Miskjalendzki and Razdjani Emiri up front into the game. They will also depend on a very rigid back line and will try to cut down any chance of a The Ghost's chances of any attack.

However they will face a tricky task. As MMFC travel to Caligae, they also bring with them a wealth of experience in players who have been capped internationally as well as having domestic experience at the top level. With Billy McVeigh down the right hand side, Mortis Mercatoria has a huge threat down the wing and should the Hammish international keep his form from the world cup, then the Boots maybe in trouble in defensive duty. Gary Smith is expected to start alongside loan signing Lydveldt Jonmikeltsen, as they look to rock and roll and get their season started. François Germaine will also start from a centre attacking midfield role opposed to the undesired right midfield role he played in Osjaton Aztecs and Tellia. Meanwhile MMFC captain Giacomo Tedeschi has told his team in a press conference to approach the game with caution.

The 25 year old former Romero defender said, "We may be the favourites but Farvaelska are still a tricky side to beat. We need to remain focused and we need to deliver the win and claim the three points. There will be no easy matches this season, so we cannot expect a victory."

It looks like this could be an interesting game, and with MMFC boasting a huge talent, it's up to Farvaelska to stamp them down. What will happen though? We will see later.

JHI-LK v Imperial United - TELEVISED

Both teams here will have the honour of being featured in the first ever televised game for the PSL, with Imperial United travelling to JHI-LK in a very fierce encounter. The Shirekeep club will be playing as the travelling side at the intimidating JHI Stadium in Avakair. The 18500 seater is often described as closed in and opponents always seem to find the task of playing at the JHI Stadium very difficult due to the conditions.

Both teams have been fairly active in the transfer window as JHI-LK look to impress straight from the word go with a attacking motive, playing a 3-4-3 formation. New signing Sdeli Liurion will look to play and open his goalscoring tally for the season, while fellow international Mickey Graves will also start in the middle of the pitch. Craitish defender Chris Senior also starts, while midfielder Rranr Kikksta will lead the team out onto the pitch in their first ever game in the PSL.

Meanwhile the Robins will be playing in their away green strip, and we should expect less ambition in the team lineup in terms of attacking flair as the away side will look to see the game off by snatching a win by counterattacking or holding for a draw. Carlao will lead Imperial Utd out onto the pitch, whilst their key players to look out for will be Talsin Llwrran and Zig Cee in the midfield, whilst Incontinentian striker Alexei Emir will also start.

The odds for this one look set to be a draw, however with home advantage and the track record of the stadium, alot of people may be wise to tip for a JHI-LK win.

Farvaelska 0-2 Mortis Mercatoria

Mortis Mercatoria left it late to claim the game after a fairly uninspiring match with lacklustre performances from both sides.

Neither side managed to create any spark or impact into the game, with the ball being played in the middle of the pack for the most of the pack. The closest Farvaelska got to a chance in the first half was after a Tor Svensson misplaced pass being intercepted by Erdasher Lejlunai who moved the ball forward to a one on one opportunity for Razdjani Emiri to put the home side ahead from 8 yards out. However Emiri's shot was poor as his foot didn't cleanly connect with the ball, allowing goalkeeper Frederico to pounce onto the ball.

MMFC continue struggling in Caligae in the second half as Emiri had another good chance go begging. After a handball by Ghost skipper Giacomo Tedeschi from the edge of the left hand side of the box, Farvaelska were gifted an indirect free kick. Håkon hin Ældri attempted a inswinging cross towards goal as Emiri leaped above Nuno Santos Gomez, however the header went well wide.

And right before the end, Farvaelska were duly punished. A long range attempt by François Germaine from 20 yards out forced Folki Öldrikkari out on full stretch to palm the ball away for a corner. Hammish world cup finalist Billy McVeigh went over to take the corner as the Farvaelska defence failed to pick up the run by Nuno Santos Gomez, who came up from the back. The ball was outswung towards the Shirerithian international, leaving Santos Gomez to nod the ball into the net with a free header on the 90 minute mark.

The Ghosts manage to double their lead in injury time after a clever run from Billy McVeigh left Arvið frå Bakkinon rooted at left back before a cross was converted into a goal by MMFC's number 10 Gary Smith, who leaped up above the defence to nod in the second.

Mortis Mercatoria left it late but duly delivered in a match that puts them provisionally top, with the JHI-LK and Imperial United clash still to come later in the day. The result should also hurt Farvaelska badly in the manner of conceding two goals right at the end of the game. MMFC now go into week two with a big clash against Imperial United at home, while Farvaelska will travel to face another favourite Syrelwynn Swifts.

Final Score: Farvaelska 0-2 Mortis Mercatoria

'90 N. Santos Gomez
'90+2 G. Smith
