Local Gods

Post by Jonas »

Now the Cedrist religion spread outside the Shirerithian borders Shireroth could call itself local and recognise a local God?

I'm not sure, but are Local Gods like patron saints in Real Life?

Local Gods are just gods that are worshiped locally, but outside that area aren't really. ie, no one really cares about them outside the local area.

I thought the idea of patronage was older than Christianity?

It is. The idea of a 'patron saint' came about because the Catholic church wanted to make the transition to Christianity easier on the pagans by combining beliefs.

Something like that--when you have a perfectly good, popular holiday like Satutnalia, why not co-opt it and turn it into a Christian holiday. That way you accomplish two goals at once: you defuse the pagan holiday, and infuse the same holiday with new, Christian meaning.

Right. I rarely watched it when it was first on PBS. So I have missed most of the in-jokes.
