Vacancies in the Divine Census
Vacancies in the Divine Census
I was looking at the Divine Census in the wiki, and there are few areas of existence that don't really have an associated god or goddess but which probably should. (Actually, with enough time and imagination and specificity I could probably think of more, but let's not get carried away.)
In particular, I was thinking: there's no God of Water (or the Sea), no God of Art (or Artists), and I'd really like to see both, if possible.
-The closest any of Major Gods come to the former is Mo'll, God of Wildfires, Rain, and Agriculture, but the connection is almost entirely due to the "rain" aspect, and Mo'll seems more a representation of the forces that affect basic livelihood on land. Maybe more appropriately, there's an old Naudia'Divan local god, Leviatan (Kraken-God of the Sea-Beasts), if we wanted to promote an existing god of some kind. If we wanted a new god, I suggest either K-K-Kph-kree (male) or Nukapai (female), both being named for cetacean gods from David Brin's Uplift series.
-For the latter, Ayreon covers music and Tex covers writing, so one of them could conceivably have their domain expanded. If we wanted a new god... I dunno, maybe take a real artist's name and twist it some?
Thoughts? I know that the Divine Census probably shouldn't be changed or inflated too often or without considerable thought, but for a nation with considerable amounts of coastline to have no water- or sea-gods? For a nation capable of great artistry to have no God of Art? Really, now!

I think we should use the ones we've got. Ayreon, God of Music and Art, and Leviathan, Kraken-God of Sea Beasts and the Sea.

Alas, the prophet is out a-journeying with Erik at the moment, so we won't hear from him till next week at best. But, yes, I'm anticipating that God-promotion is the way to go here. The kraken-god's name is spelled "Leviatan" in the wiki, without the "h", but I don't know if that's deliberate or just a misspelling...I summon Brrapa!
Edit: Actually, that seems to be deliberate; Fax's article on the Horjinic language also spells it that way. The same article also describes Leviatan not as a Kraken, but as having the form of a gigantic anglerfish, which uses its luminescent lure to trick sailors during periods of low visibility.

Re: Vacancies in the Divine Census
I have no issue with making more gods. I like having more then I can keep track of. And the david brin references make me really happy.

Really? Maybe Nukapai for Goddess of Water and the Sea, then?

If we could insert an apostrophe between a and i, like Nukapa'i, I would be happy. But the name is good anyway.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, is all. To the apostrophe, that is. Strictly an emotional reaction. Thank you.

It's only because it's a letter in Lakhesian. I hate meaningless apostrophes.

Leviatan sounds like kind of a jerk. Maybe go with Nukapai? The same article also describes Leviatan not as a Kraken, but as having the form of a gigantic anglerfish, which uses its luminescent lure to trick sailors during periods of low visibility.

Re: Vacancies in the Divine Census
So, I'm inclined to use the David Brin reference. It pleases me.
Here is a list of ideas for gods, and names for a few.
K-K-Kph-kree: The God of the Seas.
: The Goddess of Art and patron of Artists
Lo-Kah-a: God of water related Death. Takes the guise of a great dark gray bird, generally of pray, with not distinguishable features. In life a disciple of Mors.
Knotts : God of Roller coasters. Child of Loki.
: God of Traffic, Patron god of Drivers. Child of Ifni.
I'll flesh these out better later, when I'm not as sick.

I always liked K-K-Kph-kree, too (I think I nominated him as a god once), but since Nukapai is easier to spell, could we keep her instead? Or possibly in addition, if there was a distinction between sea-god/water-god?

I have no issue using both ... but for what?

Re: Vacancies in the Divine Census
Nukapai for Goddess of Water, K-K-Kph-kree for God of the Sea? May be a bit redundant, but I figure that if we can have both a god of fire and a god who does wildfires, it's no worse than that...
