An Idea...

Post by W.Payne »

I'd like to submit an idea to the great Brrapa Lu'Eraro concerning vampires.
Vampires are dark mages who have died. When the dark mage passes on, the last of his magic catches zem in between life and death. Since the dark mage is neither alive nor dead, they take on a ghost-like form, wherein they are semi-transparent and can pass through physical objects. It takes a great amount of willpower and energy for a vampire to assume a solid, physical form unless they partake in imbibing blood. This gives them enough energy to sustain a physical form. When the dark mage first dies and becomes a vampire, they will maintain their solidity for about 24 hours, to give them a chance to feed. A vampire must feed at least once every two weeks, or they will fade away and once again assume the ghost-like form. This does not kill them, however, because if they try hard enough they can assume a physical form long enough to feed again. When a vampire is in a solid form, they can still go into their ghost-like form at will and return to their solid form if they still have enough energy. Vampires do not have to kill their victims during feeding, but if they do, they gain more energy. However, that is seen as unethical even among the vampire community.Vampires have several strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
  • *virtual immortality
    *invisibility
    *ability to pass through objects
    *power to control dead spirits
Weaknesses:
  • *cannot go outside on holy days
*tans quickly (from pale to golden in 15 minutes:makes it easier to identify them)
*cannot use the magic they formerly had access to as a mage
*their powers dissolve away when they get on or near holy ground
*vampires do not have access to their power to control dead spirits when they, themselves, are in spirit form
What do you think? Is it worthy of becoming official?

If it weren't for the fact they are already covered somewhere. I know I outlined them, and started working on a story... but never finished the story. basic jist of them. THey are just another species of human that was made by a bad mix of Demon curse and Gods' Blessing.

More Jist:
Army kills demons.
Demons curse Army with lust for blood and immortality. Anatomical changes are made.
Gods counter curse with the power to resist and control the hunger for blood. Spiritual changes are made.

Result, new Species of human. They can still die by injury. but age means nothing.

But I still want to develop this somehow. Maybe a new species of vampire that is not human? I was hoping I could use it for some roleplaying in Kildare.

See, this is the problem with other people's fiction. Erik has this idea of how things should work and never really wrote it down. But if someone comes up with something different that contradicts that, then it doesn't fly.

I'm not a Boomist, but I've tried working on cultures and fictions with multiple people. My best advice: don't discourage people that are interested by trying to stay perfectly close to your vision. They won't stay interested for long if you keep saying they can't do stuff.

Or that. I was just pointing out with the whole magic bit they sound like undead sorcerer types from DnD. As long as they don't sparkle...

Sure? It's just something different then what I had, so as long as that distinction is noted, all is well.

I have my own vampires in MASS, so yeah, rock on.

...and Erik (dearest of all my friends), Harvey has a good point. You need to get all this down and post it already.
