A COMPLETELY complete Noble Titles poll

Post by Shyriath »

As part of the Landsraad reforms currently ongoing, a suggestion has been made that the system of noble titles should be streamlined somewhat... removing the Patrician/Equestrian/Civitas nomenclature and making the distinction between hereditary and non-hereditary titles in each rank more explicit.

These (along with the current system and the always-important "other" option) are some of the naming systems that I've heard being batted around, with each rank listing first the hereditary title and then the non-hereditary one. It should be noted that although "Count" no longer appears as a noble title in these schemes, it could instead be used for something else, perhaps in lieu of "governor" for counties being developed under the Spheres of Influence program.

I am keen for the Duke/Baron/Thane divide (with Count = Governor); but I don't mind how they're expressed nonhereditarily.
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

The word "Thane" sets my teeth on edge, but not enough to make too many waves.

This poll is obviously not COMPLETELY complete without a LIZARD KING option.

Of course, then we'd have to do Lizard-Dukes, Lizard-Barons, etc. Or, for a bit more variety, possibly Turtle-Dukes, Chameleon-Barons, and Newt-Thanes...

I want to keep the Patrician/Equestrian/Civitas system for being generic about titles. I don't care if we change the names really. cause then we have a generic term for both hereditary, non-hereditary and any of titles on that level of nobility.
