Popular culture has been going down the shitter since the songs that consisted only of the word "Yeah" became popular and youth aspire to be like Paris Hilton.

I disagree with your conclusions about where popular culture is at right now, and where it is going. There will *allways* be dumbasses in pop culture (here's looking at you Lil' John), and there will allways be brilliant, creative, and deep artists who create beautifull things. It may wax and wane, but there will allways be at the very least, an ember of awesomeness.

Remember that Shakespeare made shit jokes at his plays to keep the crowd entertained during breaks....
