Long Vowels

Post by Bill3000 »

There are two "long vowels" in Audente, which actually aren't long anymore and differ from their "short" counterparts only in quality - /ɛ/ and /ɔ/, derived from Imperial Audente /ɛː/ and /ei/, /ɔː/ and /ou/.

I'm just wondering which is a better orthography. Currently they're represented by [ê] and [ô] (Selôkon Audênti). Should I represent them by [é] and [ó] instead? (Normally used to represent /e/ and /o/ but this is a former height distinction so they're used to represent long vowels) For comparison:

Selôkon Audênti

Selókon Audénti

Translation: Which looks prettier: Selôkon Audênti or Selókon Audénti? :love

Selôkon Audênti looks weird but that makes it more interesting. It gives the language its own, originality.
