Commonwealth Anthem?
Wouldn't it be nice to be represented by a unified anthem for the Small Commonwealth? Something like the EU's Ode to Joy. I suggest Ravel's Boléro. The music passes the melody throughout all of the instruments, representing the unifying, yet independent, spirit of the commonwealth.

Re: Commonwealth Anthem?
I love that song....
Re: Commonwealth Anthem?
Why not Jeremiah Clarke's The Prince of Denmark's March? The Bolero is a bit slow for an anthem, I think, even though I love it to bits.

Re: Commonwealth Anthem?
Thats a good one also, although The Prince of Denmark's March is a popular wedding song (at least in the US), but would nicely represent the "union" of countries.Arviður wrote:Why not Jeremiah Clarke's The Prince of Denmark's March? Should we put it to a vote?

I've now listened to Bolero twice.. love this song. Feel like I should be marching down an urban street, looking up at sky scrapers...

We could also compose a piece of music that would be entirely our own. Would such an endeavor be fruitless??

Such a terrible thing, he's replaced the Jess we remember from a few years back with a Jess who has had a couple of years to age and mature up (pysy aina pikkuveljenä)Malliki Tosha wrote:Wtf??? A coherent, well-written, intelligent post from Jess? What the hell have you done to our Jess???
No-one should be without a parasol, Sirocco.
Re: Commonwealth Anthem?
Didn't I make the same the same proposal, some days ago? It shouldn't surprise that I agree with an anthem, but I wouldn't compare it with the EU's 'Ode to Joy', as it can anger people.
From a distance I'm concerned about the rampant lawyerism manifesting itself in Shireroth currently. A simple Kaiserial slap on the wrist or censure by the community should suffice. - Jacobus Loki

Why, my friend, would it anger someone? It's a fantastic musical piece. Unless you think folks in the EU would find offense.Jonas wrote:Didn't I make the same the same proposal, some days ago? Re: Commonwealth Anthem?
Comparing the Ode an die Freude (Ode to Joy), the EU anthem, to an anthem the Small Commonwealth would have would be like comparing the EU to the Small Commonwealth.
That's not exactly my thought, but someone else could interpret it that way and find it offensive, because the EU is more a supranational institute than the Small Commonwealth, which is an institute that wants to avoid being supranational.
In short: comparing stuff with the EU might make some people feel like their sovereignity is attached.
