Tokish handbook

Post by Falkner van der Sluijs »

This page will serve as a guide to Tokish grammar. A dictionary will be uploaded and linked in due time.

This is currently in the works, I need to think of all the forms I could possibly need to make this work.

A note: base words will only contain the letters e, ë, o, ö, u, and ü. A, ä, i, and ï can appear if they are the first vowel in the word.
Nominal suffixes:

-n : person
-an : place
-dom : building
-as : animate non-person
-shä : thing ("re-noun-ifier")
-rr : "great"
-rtt : "deistic" or "god-like"
-tar : "paired" (as in intrinsically tied)
-ter : plural
-oro : also
-ono : in addition to
-zen : ordinal
-zetr : time/event

Case suffixes:
- : Nominal case
-e : Accusitive/Locative case

Verbal suffixes:

-i : definite verb form

-sht- : distant past tense

Verbal prefixes:

ie- : want
iï- : will
io- : shall
iu- : can

These are most often used with the verb suffixes, but "ia" and "ie" can be used with nouns and adjectives as "the needed" or "the wanted" something.
Adjectival suffixes:

-l : [blank]-y (something is directly related to the root)
-sk : [blank]-like (something has a quality similar to the root)
-st : [blank]'s (something belongs to or is in the possession of the root)
Small words:

khë : question
rän : opening a clause
rrän : closing a clause
a : and
avr : but
yosk : or
nosk : nor
haö : yes
