The Diet's opinion on Taxation

Post by b3n|<3r|\| »

Friends, Yardistanis, sexy people.

Taxation is currently under debate in the Landsraad, but it's not just there that the issue of taxation has arisen. There's some things I want your opinions on - first off, the Crown Taxation that's being voted on now. Do you think it's right? I think it's a good way of restoring the money to the Crown Account, and it makes sense, since THIS- IS- FEUDALISM! Vassals should pay their sovereign taxes.

Which brings me onto another point. Ducal taxation. I have recently instituted a Trust Tax, whereby 50 :erb are deposited in the Ducal account for safe keeping - or not - for as long as someone cannot be trusted to do the right thing with their erbs. I like this, I think it adds a certain dynamism to taxation. I have no need to tax people who are sensible with their money. What do you guys think on that tax? I believe we don't really need any other taxes. Perhaps if I'm strapped for cash and the Kaiser demands some mohonies I'll demand it of you, but we all knew that sort of stuff was going to happen from time to time what with this being a feudal economy.

So... thoughts?

Gralus tried some manner of tax system, and it failed miserably, but that's probably because our economy doesn't generate revenue easily...

The new Shirerithian economy has been more successful than most other micronational economies, so I think we can pull it off. :thumbsup

As for the Trust tax, it sounds like a good way to pull this off. I mean, what honest Baron wants to get taxed, anyway? :D We're Yardistan; we have enough untrustworthy people hanging around that we probably won't need to actually tax anyone very often with this Trust Tax idea.

I admit, I only created it to use on Baron Lord United Isles over there once, but I can see it coming in handy... in case there's ever a recession or something... :document :p
