Project Fenrir

Post by Leo Fenrir »

BioEngineering Lab, Liberty Research Center, Raynor Islands

A lazy swirl of dust motes were thrown into a frenzy as a passing man in a once-white lab-coat made his way with a tray in hand. In the dim, sterilizing, light of the ultraviolet lamps, the air seemed to dance with patterns, the dust measuring out calculated swirls and curves. The tray that the technician had been carrying produced a protesting series of 'clink's as it was unceremoniously deposited on one of the aluminum top desks.

The room gave off an impression of great weight which was, in prat, due to the three stories of rock and earth resting on it. This particular lab had been constructed to minimize environmental fluctuations, and to maximize control on the more refined variables. It was evident, from the lack of clutter and almost tangible sense of regimented organization, that the lab was run by men who knew what they were doing.

A drop of sweat detached itself from the bridge of the nose of the man known as Ambrose, evaporating in the heat moments before hitting the floor. He had learned to simply ignore it, the heat that is. The conditions were a necessity to ensure the longevity of the organic samples that were stored on this floor of the complex. The job paid well enough, and he figured that it was a reasonable trade for the lack of comfort.

Ambrose ran his hand over the few of the vials eliciting a tinkling. Each glass bulb was considered priceless. Not because they contained anything of any significant value; in actuality each vial contained a simple solution with DNA samples. It wouldn't have been noteworthy but for the fact the DNA in this tray had been gathered from some of the most powerful and influential figures that had ever lived and some that still lived. His index brushed against a label boasting 'Raynor IV'. Another 'Osmani Khan'. Ambrose often wondered how they had come by the samples, but experience had taught him that such questions were better left unanswered to the likes of him.

A genius some called him. He had been the first to successfully fuse two parent DNA samples in a living sample. It had been the reason the ISI had hired him in the first place, the reason he had been instructed to access the tray he was currently examining. Yet for all his knowledge, he would never be told what it was being used for. Granted he had basic explanations, enough to complete his task, but never enough to glean what his work may be achieving. Today was different.

Today he had received instructions from Dr. Wrend himself detailing the project that was to be dubbed 'Fenrir'. Despite himself, Ambrose felt a shiver of excitement. It was obvious, from the hundreds of legal forms he'd been made to sign, that he was only receiving full disclosure on the project simply because the higher-ups couldn't find a way to undertake it with him working blindly. Not that he really cared, but to know that his work would actually be of import had a strange effect on him. It was the first time he had felt pride in a long time.

His fingers closed on a vial that was simply labeled 'Daniel'. He had been carful to wipe his hand on his coat before doing so. More then one sample had been lost in the lab due to heat induced sweaty hands. A confident stride carried him across the room to a second set of trays. Here he pick out one labeled 'Leo Dine | sample age : 34'. It was going to be a difficult process but the challenge was welcome. Ambrose nodded at his college as he made his way to lab proper.

His college, Dr. Linalee Morose, was currently working on the 'Fido' case. He would have felt a twinge of jealousy, and not acknowledged her at all, had it not been for the fact he had been entrusted with 'Fenrir'. This was obviously not lost on Dr. Morose who raised an eyebrow in question. She returned to her work just as soon though. How often did one get to examine a supernatural force that had been forced into a biological existence?

The dull purple glow flickered to life as Ambrose entered the second section of the complex. This was were all the heavy machinery was kept. It had been important to separate them from the research sections due to the high levels of radiation released by some of them. He approached a table on which had been set a series of centrifuges. He placed both vials in the device and taped a sequence of commands into the computer terminal right next to it.

The machine began a low whirring sound and progressively picked up speed. The process had begun.

:yay:
Take that, Deep Trouble, Raynor Isles are first choice for evil bioengineering projects!
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

[ ;) Evil is a bit harsh though. Simply smoothing over some continuity issues that may arise.]
