From the North

Post by Andreas the Wise »

From the North, a series of prophecies from the great Seer Raa'mus the Farsighted, of the Mel'anje people. Dating is uncertain, but likely to be between 3 and 7 thousand years ago.

From the North
come all the best dreams ...

So too do the biggest storms,
but the power of the thunder
lies not with the Dreamer
But he who would not stand against the flame,
and they will be reflected in the shadows
before the time is nigh.

Fated are all words then,
lest they vanish for all time.
But perhaps they will yet avert it
and the ancient shall leave their lands.

Beware the shimmering ships,
where right is left,
who would land on the Royal Isles.
They bring a terrible gift,
and the darkness in their wake
if started, must play its course.

But if you do not heed these words,
HEED THIS.
When the Nifty One can no longer
save the land,
collect up the strong words
for safe keeping here,
for it will be terrible
for those words left in the dark.
Then cut off all connections
and listen to no echoes of home
lest you too perish in the scourge.

And when one comes from the North
with fire in his hands,
and words in his heart,
then you will know the time of trial is near.

And in that time their shall arise
a Joshua of sacred line,
where profane and arcane meet,
in trinity of power.
The very land shall rise up
and fight for him
and he in turn shall become it,
Lest we perish in the flame.

Echoes and whispers of the past
will not trouble him,
nor the shadows of night overcome him,
but his pride will reflect in his glory,
and in the heart of the matter,
blood will out.
Then we shall see if he may
weather the coming storm.
Or whether he is fated to fall
in the wheel of fortune.
The character Andreas the Wise is on indefinite leave.
However, this account still manages:
Cla'Udi - Count of Melangia
Manuel - CEO of VBNC. For all you'll ever need.
Vincent Waldgrave - Lord General of Gralus
Q - Director of SAMIN
Duke Mel'Kat - Air Pirate, Melangian, and Duke of the Flying Duchy of Glanurchy

And references may be made to Vur'Alm Xei'Bôn (a Nelagan Micron of undisclosed purpose).

The doors slammed open. "Show it to me," the Baron said, as he stormed into the great library in Melangia (no, not the Time Revisionist's one, the general Library).
"It is here, your baronship," said the Melangian attendant, the fear clear in her voice. The Melangians were a peaceful and calm race and had not seen their Baron so concerned before. The attendant took down a scroll and handed it to him. He read it gravely. He finished it, began to roll up the scroll, then opened it again and rechecked a line. Then he laughed.
"And here it was, under my nose the whole time," he said, smiling now. "What is it about Kildare that makes it so good for prophecies?"
"I don't know, your baronship," answered the attendant, still not sure whether this mood change would last.
"Sorry, rhetorical question," he said, smiling. "Mind if I make a copy of this?"
"For you, of course," the attendant replied. "I shall get ink and parchment." Nervously she left.

Andreas merely looked at the two verses which had caught his attention. The last one, the one he had remembered when he was recataloguing the libraries in MANA, and that he was sure had not yet come to pass. And the middle one, which was there, indisputable proof that the plague had been caused by the Shadows, for, indeed, it had been predicted beforehand, and that was how Melangia had survived it with such knowledge intact.
Beware the shimmering ships,
where right is left,
who would land on the Royal Isles.
They bring a terrible gift,
and the darkness in their wake
if started, must play its course.

Very nice! Plenty of literary themes and preconceptions about the world can be derived from this. This will prove most useful for developing the Mala'Eretz!
